INTRODUCTION

A school voucher, which is also commonly referred to as an opportunity

scholarship, is a certificate that is funded by the government to pay for a child to

attend private school.

School vouchers have many benefits, not only for the students, but also for

the schools. School vouchers take the money intended for education and give it to

the families of the children, rather than the school districts. The families can then

chose which school they want to have their child in, whether public or private,

and give that school money they would use for funding. One benefit of school

voucher programs is that parents can make sure their students are getting the best

possible education. Regardless of their income level, if the public schools. Also,

children and parents of certain religious beliefs can seek an education that is in

line with their beliefs. School vouchers benefit schools in the long run as well.

They force the schools to hire qualified faculty and provide excellent education in

order to receive funding.

 One of the things which has been really important for schools in this day

and age is the constant desire to improve, and it can be something which is

expected of all schools – regardless of their status. There have also been fears that

public schools are not accountable enough. With school vouchers, it can be that a

parent can option for private schools because they do not feel the state-funded

alternative is adequate enough for their child’s needs. In order to try and regain

some of the intake that a state-funded school might be losing, some public school

will have the motivation to become even better educators – meaning that they can

be more competitive to the better results that some private institution might have.

Public JHS students – will receive 100% of the voucher amount

ESC JHS students – will receive 80% of the voucher amount

Voucher recipients from public/DepEd JHS who will enroll in a non-DepEd SHS

Located in the National Capital Region (NCR) will receive a full voucher amount

of Php 22,500. Voucher recipients from private JHS will receive 80% or Php

18,000 while those enrolling in SUCs/LUCs, regardless if they completed JHS in

a public or private school, will receive 50% or Php 11,250.

Voucher recipients from public/DepEd JHS who will enroll in a non-DepEd SHS

located in Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs) hat are not in NCR will receive a full

voucher amount of Php 20,000. These cities include Angeles, Bacolod, Baguio,

Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu City, Davao City, General Santos, Iligan, Iloilo

City, Lapu-Lapu, Lucena, Mandaue, Olongapo, Puerto Princesa, Tacloban, and

Zamboanga City. The list of HUCs is based on the 2010 list published by the

Philippine Statistics Authority, which is the latest available data on such. Voucher

recipients from private JHS will receive 80% or Php 16,000 while those enrolling

in SUCs/LUCs, regardless if they completed JHS in a public or private school,

will receive 50% or Php 10,000.

Statement of the Problem

The study focuses entitled “The Advantages of School Voucher in the

students of Iligan Computer Institute”

This specifically seek to answer the following question:

1. What are the advantages of school voucher?

2. In what way did the ICI students take advantages of school voucher?

3. What choices do ICI students engage in as a school voucher?

Scope and Delimitations

The study is focused in the students of ICI who’s under the School

Voucher Program. The study is limited only to the advantages of the school

voucher and the benefits that they can get.

Significant of the study

The important of this study is helping the readers to understand about the school

voucher and for them to know what benefits that they can encounter under the

voucher program.

To the administration, it is important to know what voucher is and how they will

use this chance to choose school either in public or in private.

To the parents, it is also important to know what is the best choice for their

students. This study can help the readers become wise of choosing the right

decisions by knowing the benefits and the possible consequence.
