transitions

The article talks about the transition to low carbon producing energy source. The world was
already focusing on renewable energy from pre-covid 19 and countries like europe and North
America are taking leaps to move its resources towards renewable energy such as solar power,
hydroelectricity, even Asian countries were pushing themselves in embracing the renewable
energy but at slower pace.
The outbreak of pandemic made government change their strategy and focus towards the
controlling of virus and provide stimulus package to boost economy. All this slowed the speed of
the investment and progress of renewable energy projects. A research by BCG shows that europe
is still working towards it renewable energy project but few of the hard hit countries are Latin
America, South Asia and Africa.
Most of the countries are still making substantial progress in this direction because they were not
the one hard hit by the pandemic, countries such as Japan, south Korea, Malaysia and Singapore
fall under such list of countries. Second, these countries tend to gain from shifting to renewable
energy generation and to electrified energy consumption, particularly in the transportation sector
through heightened EV adoption. And third, the stimulus measures and policy reforms that these
Asian countries have adopted so far, although ostensibly aimed at buoying industrial
competitiveness, are likely to have the side effect of hastening energy transitions.
This shift in energy sector if continues, oil and gas companies may need to revies their business
and investment plan and nedd to diversify their resource before the oil demand reach its peak
before reversing. In countries like china and south korea few of the policies in wake of pandemic
tend to reduce oil consumption per day by 3 million barrels by 2040.
Covid 19 pandemic is focused not only on economic stimulus but it is also focused on health
sector unlike another crisis. Thus, many polices are driven towards energy transison and moving
towards safe and clean energy.
Research topic: The research topic I feel in term of renewable energy is that if such virus tend to
be less impactful in a environment with less pollution and clean energy.
