Q1: What is the difference between PNP and NPN wiring of the VFD control

terminals?
Ans: In PNP type of wiring, the command of the digital input is executed when the
digital input terminal is connected to the positive terminal of 24V dc power supply
as shown in Fig1-A.
In NPN type of wiring, the command execution is done by short-circuiting the
digital input terminal to the dc common terminal (CM) as shown in Fig1-B.

Q2: Which type of VFD open loop control should be used to reduce the effect of
loading on the speed regulation?
Ans: Slip compensation control mode which enable the motor to run at a constant
speed by compensating the inherent slip of the induction motor.
Q3: What is meant by torque boost, and where it should be used?
Ans: It is a function that increases the VFD output voltage to increase the starting
torque at low speed. it should be used with loads that require high starting torques
like cranes.
Q4: Is it possible to run two motors using one VFD unit? If the answer is yes,
mention in details what do you have to do to achieve that under full protection of
both motors?
Ans: Yes it is possible and to achieve that do the following:
1- Set one of the multi-function input terminals for second motor operation.
2- Assign the suitable values for the 2nd motor operation.
Q5: Is it possible to run a single phase load using single phase input/ three phase
output VFD unit? If the answer is yes, state how to do that.
Ans: yes it is possible. To allow powering signle phase load, the output loss phase
protection should be disabled.

Q6: In a certain application, it is requierd to be able to run the three-phase

induction motor at eight distinct speeds. Assuming the used ac drive is of SV-iG5
type, define the following :
The requiered power and control wiring.
The drive mode setting .
The frequency mode setting .
The values of the control terminal registers.
The codes of the parameters related to speed setting.
Ans:
Power and control wiring

Drive Mode : Drv=1 Run/Stop via control terminals.

Frequency change source : Frq=0, the frequency is controlled by Keypad1
I12 ( P1 configuration register)=0 ( Speed-L ) ; Step-Frq-1
I13 ( P2 configuration register)=1 ( Speed-M) ; Step-Frq-2
I14 (P3 configuration register)=2 ( Speed-H) ; Step-Frq-3
I21( Step 4 frequency setting )
I22( Step 5 frequency setting )
I23( Step 6 frequency setting )
I24( Step 7 frequency setting )
Q7: State what one must do to prevent the vibration of the structure on which the
motor is mounted.
Ans: Lock out the potential resonance frequency from occurring through:
1- Allow the frequency jumping by setting assigning 1 to the jump frequency
selection .
2- Setting the jump frequency bands defined by
Jump frequency 1 low
Jump frequency 1 high
:
:
Jump frequency n low
Jump frequency n high

Q8: What one must do to let the VFD displays the shaft mechanical speed instead
of the rpm of the revolving field.
Ans: By setting the Gain for motor speed display (H74)
Shaft mechanical speed=(120 ×f/P) × Gain for motor speed display.
