Types OF Test and

Evaluation
 

Definition Of test

• The instrument or systematic procedure of measuring a sample of student’s


behaviour under specific condition.
• A set of questions to be answered by the students.
• A series of problem to be solved.
• A set of task to be performed by the examinee.
 Test might call upon the examinees to string beads, to complete the missing part
of a picture.
The question, problem and task are called the test.
 
Types Of test

According to function:-
➢ Pre-test
➢ Master test
➢ Diagnostic test
 

Pre test

• These tests determine whether the students have necessary background to


get benefit from proposed course.
• These tests are given at the beginning of a course and are usually of low
difficulty.
Mastery Test

• These tests measure the minimum learning outcomes, which all the students
must attain so that further progress will ba made in the topic under
instruction.
    Examples:-
• Vocabulary and spelling test
• Tests of basic skills in arithmetic

Diagnostic Test

• It measures the specific strength and weakness of the student in his


achievement.
According to medium employed:-
 
• Oral test
Students response orally.
• Written test
Students response written or through drawing.
• Performance test
Requires students to demonstrate their skills by maniupulating objects.

According to the role played by


examinees:-
• Essay type test
• Objective type test
• Essay type test:-
In these tests opinion of the examinee are permitted to influence the score
assigned to students e.g explain and illustrate evaluation.
• Objective type test:-
In these tests scoring is fixed.

Definition of Evaluation

• Evaluation is a process of collecting, analysing and interpreting the data to


which extent students have achieved their learning objectives.
Types of evaluation

• Formative
• Summative
• Diagnostic
• Placement
