[As the proparation of yarns Is very important, please read the next chapter véry carefully. “The machine is designed to Knit a wide range of yarns, In the beginning, howover, we recommend you start off with a new ball of medium, d-ply yarn ~ NOT WITH LEFTOVERS. As you bacome accustomed to machine Knitting you will be able to use all types of yarns ~ se be patient. 1. [tis impossible to knit from a hank of yarn, You will have to rewind it using 2 yarn windor. ‘This hand wound ball is not suitable for machine knitting, [t will roll around and become tanglad. You MUST rewind itusing a yam winder, 2. It not recommended that you use apull skein of yarn as it is impossible to knit with the outside end of the yarn, We do not recommend pulling the yarn from the centre as the yarn does not alivays draw smoothly and there may be knots. AUTOMATIC YARN WINDER USEFUL OPTIONAL EXTRA ACCESSORY ‘The yarn windor will wind the yarn speedily ‘and perfectly ready for machine knitting. It savas @ great deal of time by winding the 'yarn into a ball in only a fow saconds. IMPORTANT TEST, When the yarn is pulled from the ecnire cof the ball - the thread must come out freely without lifting the ball front stu table - see illus. 1. THREADING THE MACHINE CARRIAGE ON RIGHT SIDE. Pull the-yarn ond out of the cantra of the ball ensuring that the yarn comes out easily without lifting the bati from the table . NOTE: Aneven loop has been formed between needle hook ‘B” and sinker gate pin 'C'. Whan knitting ths first row it might happen that the tops get smallor towards the left side (soe illus. needles 4,2,3 and 4.) ‘This is incorrect and can be easily corrected. CORRECTION: Hold yam above yarn feeder and pull it down to form aloo. Starting from the smallest loop furthest eway from the carriago, in this instance needle No. 1, push the needles with small oops back to"B’ position» ONEBY ONE, as] (NYLON CORD. Flomove nylon cord from the accessory box, open it and eheck that there are no knots in the nylon card before using same as othervvise you cannot pull ‘tout of the knitting after casting on. Lay the nylon cord across the yarn loops between needle hooks ‘A’ and sinkor gate pins’B., Pass it around and down the last sinker gate pit ‘C’ on left and right side of needles with tops, Hold bath ends together and pull down firmly so that the nylon cord is below the needle hooks. Before knitting ensure that nylon cord lies correctly scrass the loops and is pulled own sufficiontly ar otherwise it will become loose and entangled. Knit5 rows stopping with earriage on the tight side, ENSURE AT ALL TIMES THAT SINKER ARM PLATE ‘A’ HAS PASSED THE LAST KNITTED NEEDLE BY APPROXIMATELY 4.70 5 CM BEFORE CHANGING DIRECTION. Pull out nylon cord either to the left or right sido and unfasten yarn end from right side table clamp. Continue knitting until your first ball of yarn has been knitted — this is the best way to get ‘the right rhytiim for machine knitting and to feel confident with your new knitsing machine, HOW TO REMOVE THE KNITTING FROM THE MACHINE WITHOUT CASTING OFF 1. Open feeder: break off main yaen above feed: 2. Hook yarn end into yam ofip on uprod, 3. Pull yarn out of feeder and let it hang loosely on the side of the fabric, Romove tension swateh from machine by moving carriage across knitted fabric, ‘The knitting comes away automatically from the needles, but it will have an open edge. YOU HAVE NOW COMPLETED THE Most IMPORTANT PART OF MACHINE KNITTING. YOU ARE NOW MACHINE KNITTING IF YOU HAVE HAD ANY DIFFIGULTY IN KNITTING THE FIRST ROWS, CHECK TO SEE IF— 1. The carriage ALWAYS passes ALL the needles in KNITTING p the next row. jow before returning to knit 2. The yarn is suitable for your tension setting. ‘The yarn is threaded correctly. 4, The yarn is properly wound inte a ball sul table for machine knitting, REMEMBER — ALWAYS move the carriage past all the needles in knitting position before changing direction for the next row. BUT — moving the carriage TOO FAR beyond the Knitting, results in loose yarn tension, and the ‘yarn will tangle around the brushes below the Sinker Arm which will cause the carriage to jam or ‘the yarn to break. In this eave you will have to restart the easting-on. STITCHES ARE NOT KNITTED ON THE SIDI If you return the carriage BEFORE (T HAS PASSED THE LAST NEEDLES IN ‘8’ POSITION BY SEVERAL CHM,, it con happen that the fire stitches of the row are not knitted and sometime: it may happen that a complete row is nat knitted. In the caso that stitches are not knitted, unravel this row and re-start itagain - also set the row counter back, 1f acomplete row is notlknitted, aide the carriage completely off the needie bed and re-start fram the other sidé ‘also tot the row counter back. ay DROPPED STITCHES ON THE SIDE: Dropped stitches wall occur an the sides of your knitting if your yam brake: is not property threadad and your takeup spring is nat automatically tcking up aff slack yarn between the feeder mou th and the needles. Loose loops may also form on the sides. Dropped stitches or !onse loops may occur at the sides of your knitting it ‘you move your carriage toe far past the knitting after knitting @ row - thon too much yarn is pulled from the yarn brake and you have slack ‘yarn between the carriage and the knitting, “This is eacily avoided if you just pull back any slack yarn behind the yarn brake, DROPPED STITCHES IN THE CENTRE Gan be caused by: = too 19088 oF too tight & tension = atension unsuitable for the pattern is not suitable for the pattern fer arm are two rectangular block brushes. As you move your earriage, these brushes brush open and hold open your needle latches so that your yarn fneder can lay yarn into the hooks as the carriage paises the nesdles, Af these brushes ore badly worn, or if the sinker arm has not been placed into ‘the carriage properly, then the brushes cannot sarve thoi function and dropped stitehes will result. Dropped stitches are easy to repai DROPPED STITCHES: Those can be caused by skenot in the yarn or by yarn which has been badly or toa tightly wound, thus preventing the smooth flow of yaen from the ball to the knitting. HOW TO REPAIR A DROPPED STITCH: nce you are accustomed ta machine knitting, you will very seldom drop a stitch. But as soon as you notice a dropped stitch , you should repair it, So, let's try — Insort the transfer toof inside the dropped stiteh. Hook the transfer tool into the empty needles, Lift the loose bar of yarn and tha stiteh onto the empty needie, ‘Thare is now 7 Sitch and 1 bar on the ‘empry needle. First, push the needle up to ‘D* position, then full the needle slighty back -just until the thar and the stitch aee behind the latch then STOP. Lift tho loose bar of yarn over the fateh {NTO the hook and leave the stitch BEHIND the latch, Pull the needle back down towards "B” position thus pulling the bar of yarn through the stiteh. Push the needle furttier back towards ‘A position to enable it to form a bigger stitch, Pull your knitting down and sideways until gradually the newly repaired stitch assumes the same shape as all other stitches. REPAIRING A LADDER OF DROPPED STITCHES Inert she ltehet hook froin behind your kitting through 9 stitch 2 few rows talow the dropped sith, ‘Undo stitches down to the fatehot hook by pulling down-on the latchet hook, Push the fatchet haok towards you so that tho stlich comes behind the latch, and the ‘hook catches the cross thmaad. Draw back the latchet hook, The crass thresd is trapped it the clased latch. Pull the crass thread through the loop thus forming # knitted stitch, Push the latehot hook towards you again ‘until the stitch is BEHIND the latch. Catch the next cross throad in the hack and ull it through the stitsh. Repeat until you reach the top, Pull the last stitch rather tight to make & bigger foop. Insort transfer tool inte this Joop from the front Carefully romove this stiseh from the latehet hook and place it on the needle with yous transfer tool. UNDOING ROWS — UNRAVELLING Unravelting is quick and very simple to do and may save quite a considerable amount of time. IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO UNRAVEL — If you Rave ks -d too many rows, Hf you have made a mistake in your knitting or pattern, f your cartiage jams and it is necessary to release the carriage and re-start ‘the row where the fault occurred, If you have one or more dropped stitches im the middle of a raw, itis meh easier to unravel 2 or 3 rows and then just lift the dropped stitches bacic onto their respective needles.
