TERM3 YR10 WEEK 9-10 CRS NOTE

TOPIC: THE SECOND COMING ( JOHN 14:1-3; 1Thesalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thesolanians 2:1-12)

The second coming of Jesus Christ is the expectation of many christians based on the teachings of Jesus
after his resurrection. He had gone to prepare a place for all christians to come back and take faithful
christians with him to the kingdom of God where they will live eternally.

SIGNS OF THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS .

According to his letter to the THESALONIANS church, Paul the apostle cautioned christians to be careful
not to allow anyone deceive them concerning the coming of Jesus. He said that Jesus coming will not
happen untill the man of lawlessness is revealed. He called him the son of perdition who will come from
the devil to exalt himself above everything called god or object of worship. Who would take his seat in
the temple of God and proclaim himself to be God. He emphasized that the act of lawlessness is already
at work except that the embodiment of personality is yet to be revealed.

Moreover, St Paul encouraged the christians not to grieve hopelessly for the brethren who had died. He
said: at the coming of Jesus, once the trumpet sounds with the shout of the archangel voice and the
appearance of Jesus in the sky, that the christians who died in Christ will resurrect from their graves and
be caught up in the sky to unite with Christ. Then the christians who are alive in Christ will follow up to
be with Christ for ever. He said that brethren should encourage one another with this assurance of
hope. The signs are thus:

1. Christ will descend from heaven with a cry of command with the archangel's call and with the sound
of the trumpet of God.

2. The dead in Christ will rise first, those who are alive shall be with them in the clouds to meet the Lord
and remain with him for ever.

3. Christians should encourage one another with the message of his coming.

PREPARATION FOR HIS COMING( 1 Thesolanians 5:1-11).

St Paul wrote to the Thesalonians that there was no divine information concerning the time and hour
Jesus will come. He however warned that the coming of Jesus will occur at such a time no one expects;
when people feel that there is peace and security. He encouraged all christians not to relent in their
efforts in keeping their faith so that non of them will be taking unawares. Consequently, he wants every
christian to be ready for the coming of Jesus will be like the labour pain upon a pregnant woman.

SIGNIFICANCE OF JESUS COMING

- Christians should live in readiness knowing fully well that the second coming of Jesus Christ is a reality.

- Christians should watch and pray and study their bibles always to put them in the right frame of mind
towards his coming

- They should live obedient and righteous lives.

- Christians should engage in evangelism and preach to others the reality of the coming of Jesus Christ.

- Christians should not grieve so much about their brethren who died because they will rise again at
coming of Jesus Christ.
