RELIABILITY

Reliability in qualitative research often concerns: accuracy, comprehensiveness,

respondent validation ‘checkability’, explanatory and descriptive potential,
confirmability.

Reliability refers to the stability of responses to multiple coders of data sets or

the extent to which the measurements of a test remain consistent after
repeated use of subjects and under the same conditions.
TYPES OF RELIABILITY
1. RETEST
Test twice submitted. The correlation coefficient is obtained from the correlation of the two
scores.

2. PARALLEL TEST
The test was carried out twice with two types of test forms whose items were different but
had the same characteristics (equivalent).

3. INTERNAL CONSISTENCY
More practical. The test is divided into two, for example, even and odd.

4. INTERRATER
The test is assessed by two or more people to calculate its reliability with the Kappa
formula.
VALIDITY
Validity -> accuracy, precision, validity

• Concerning what the test measures and how well the test can measure (the extent to
which the test is able to measure the attributes that should be measured).

• An instrument is said to be valid if the instrument measures what should be measured

according to a particular situation or purpose.

• The instrument is considered valis if the instrument can actually be used as a tool to
measure what you want to measure.
TYPES OF VALIDITY
1. Content validity
Content validity or content validity focuses on providing evidence on the
elements in the measuring instrument and is processed by rational analysis.
2. Criteria validity
Criterion validity focuses on comparing the instrument that has been developed
with other instruments that are considered comparable to what will be assessed
by the instrument that has been developed.
3. Construct validity
This validity relates to whether the research tool used has been prepared based
on an appropriate and relevant theoretical construct.
EXAMPLES OF RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY
• RELIABILITY
On the daily test that was tested yesterday and then tested again on the
next day to TBI B class and obtained relatively the same scores, then the daily test is
reliable. That way, the results obtained using the instrument may be used as research
data.

• VALIDITY
When Mr. Zei wants to make an instrument to measure English learning
achievement in TBI B class, so the questions tested must be related to English, such as
grammar, vocab, writing, etc. So that, the validity requirements have been fulfilled.
