Introduction

In the age of information, cellphones are belongings of someone that is used in

everyday life. Even in an academic setting, cellphones are instruments that can help the
students access the information online. Because of this, cellphones are easily accessed by
students during class hours. Cellphones usage during class hours becomes a hindrance that
could affect them negatively. This alarming topic should be raised, hence why the researchers
chose this topic to tackle.

According to Pooja S Tandon (2020), Cell phone use among middle and high school
students is ubiquitous, starts at younger ages, and is negatively associated with children’s
academic and social-emotional outcomes. Parents and educators are concerned about the
association of cell phone use with child well-being. Despite these concerns, there are limited
rigorous data on school cell phone use policies and practices.
The virtual world they view on their mobile phones is highly distracting. Students find it
fascinating and spend hours lost in it. It is not only misleading but confusing, too. It also
distracts them from their studies and sports as kids wish to spend more time with their phones
than their books. They tend to lose focus and their academic performance suffers badly.

According to Jonh Wiley & Sons (2018) Cell phones are becoming an inevitable part
of the classroom, but extant research suggests that using cell phones in the classroom impairs
academic performance. The present study examined the impact of different cell phone
policies on learning and emotion‐regulation style. Participants were randomly assigned to one
of four experimental conditions: cell phone usage allowed, cell phone possession allowed but
without usage, cell phones removed, and a no‐instruction control group.

The finding of this study, revealed that mobile phone usage significantly influence
academic performance among male and female senior secondary school students, age
difference was not a significant factor in mobile phone usage on academic performance
among senior secondary school students parent’s occupation was not a significant factor in
mobile phone usage on academic performance among senior secondary school students and
that the frequency of mobile phone usage does not significantly influence academic
performance among male and female senior secondary school students

Statement of the Problem

Over usage of cellphone in class and its impact on academic performance on selected
HUMSS Grade 11 Students.
Numerous studies have been done on smartphone usage among Grade 11 students.
Many of the research that have looked at the connections between using a cell phone and
academic success have produced contradictory results. Consequently, the main objective of
this meta-analysis was to thoroughly synthesize the available studies to examine the impacts
of smartphone addiction on learning.
Due to the widespread usage of cellphones in our culture, addiction and excessive use
have grown to be serious global problems. Many of the research that have looked at the
connections between using a cell phone and academic success have produced contradictory
results. The majority of these research used students' self-reported course grades to examine
the links between problematic smartphone use and academic achievement. Because course
grades don't necessarily reflect learning outcomes, this study focuses on student learning. As
a result, one of the objectives of this meta-analysis is to determine whether student learning is
impacted by smartphone use in the classroom.
Smartphone use is evolving into an effective tool for learning that can improve
educating and learning through distance learning. Because of its use, flexible course delivery
is ensured, and it is feasible for students to engage digitally, access online learning platforms,
and access course materials (Raza et al., 2020). .However, over usage of cellphone in young
people, particularly in students, is increasing as a result of an overreliance on technology in
all spheres, hence it is necessary to investigate thoroughly and consistently whether over
usage is advantageous for the Does it have a negative impact student academic performance.
The researcher would like to know the Factors that affect student of over usage of
cellphone in class of the selected student (HUMSS Student; 2022-2023 Grade 11) in
Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina. The researcher seeks answer the following research
question:
This study aimed to find out the impact of over usage cellphone in class of HUMSS Student.
1.) What is the negative effect of using mobile phone to the performance of grade 11
students during class?
2.) Is the students' lack of interest in lectures, which finally results in their bad
performance, related to the distraction from mobile devices?
3.) What advantages come from refraining from using a phone while in class?
4.) What impact does student use of mobile phones have on their academic performance?

appropriate for your study.

Next describe the steps you look to analyze the data this may include cleaning the
data checking for outlierx computing deseriptive statties and running inferential. explain each
step in detail and how it contributed to your overall analysis

The goal of a thematic analysis is to identify themes, patterns in the data that are
important or interesting, and use these themes to address the research or say something about
an issue. We use thematic analysis to become familiar with the data to generate the initial
code and to have a theme for our research.
