2. there is a need to transfer water in the UK because some parts of the UK mostly the east and
south east have very low water supply. They cannot meet their water demands this means that they
are in a water deficit the purpose of the reservoir is to distribute water so that there is little water
deficit in the north east around Newcastle.

4. one benefit is that it makes the scenery look a lot more beautiful. As well as that it will put that
location on the map. It has become a tourism location also fishing and other activities have become
a good way of making money. Not only does the reservoir distribute water around the country it
generates electricity from a turbine in the dam making it multi use. Keeps river levels controlled.
New wildlife like the bird ospreys have returned to the area because of the new body of water. It
creates jobs.

5. it originally flooded a beautiful valley and was bad for the environment also it displaced many
farming communities. As it was built for the shipping yard that then got shut down some think it is a
waste of money. 1 and a half million trees were cut down for it to b made.
