Modern day technology has drastically altered the way people receive information from

published sources. The world of digital publishing has allowed immediate access to books,
magazines, newspapers, and many other sources of information. Much like any publishing
workflow, electronic publishing must follow certain steps to achieve publication. Beebe &
Meyers (2000) describe the e-publishing workflow as content development, publisher
enhancements, manufacturing, distribution, marketing, and archiving. Authors submit their work
electronically, from anywhere in the world, via email, URL, cloud uploads, private ISDN, xDSL,
and many other platforms. The publisher will often provide a template or specify to the author in
what format the work will need to be submitted. A peer review will then take place, allowing for
quality improvement and originality. The publisher will perform any appropriate editing, along
with tagging elements of the work with specific coding to allow for the content to be used in
various forms of media. The final product must be coded and designed to be accessed by its
targeted audience. Traditional publishing companies have a different responsibility of ‘delivery’
than that of the electronic world: print and paper versus immediate uploading. The time length
of the publishing workflow is also significantly decreased when compared to traditional. The
submission of an author’s work used to take weeks or months to arrive at the publisher, but now
can be sent immediately.
Online customer-to-customer businesses offer a virtual platform, via the internet and/or
mobile app, which allows commerce between private individuals. These C2C platforms allow
consumers to search for products or services, read descriptions, reviews, and see photos. Often
there is a set price or auction option, followed by the ability to securely pay the seller online
(Rivera, 2022). An example would be Etsy, a platform that allows handmade custom items to be
bought for a set price. This process is very simple: search, add to cart, checkout, pay, receive the
item in the mail. There is also a messaging system built in to allow direct communication
between the buyer and seller. The IT necessary for the visible aspect of their business would
include graphic design skills, an appealing logo, and high-quality photography of products.
