System Features and Highlights
EX1000 MidStation - 2000W
EX2000 1200W Broadband FM Stereo Exciter/Transmitter
INTRODUCTION
The MidStation Series from Sinteck Next is a high specification FM broadcast transmitter/exciter. Its
broadband “no-tune” design allows 87,5 up to 108,1MHz operation from UP/DOWN touch keys located
directly in the front panel of the unit. The MidStation Series have a LCD green back light display to show the
frequency of operation, between others functions of the equipment. A Switched mode regulator for DC
adjust techniques provide an easily adjustable and accurate automatic level controlled RF output of the
LDMOS power amplifier stage.
RF (Forwarded and Reverse power), Audio levels (Left and Right channels, MPX composite), voltage and
current, temperature and other parameters are shown on the front panel on the LCD display. These LCD
offers a very easy method of transmitter parameter monitoring and a new level of easy for setup and
installation, with metering accuracy normally found on expensive test equipment only.
The FM modulator section employs a high quality VCO block, for extremely low audio distortion and
excellent stereo performance.
The EX2000 MidStation can be configured through cards that can be installed by the customer or even
configured of it already manufactures internally with these cards. The customer can choose in working with
the basic system without additional card and according to need the cards can be supplied.
The EX2000 Link may be supplied to the final user with a Stereo Generator Card to transmit programs in
Stereo operation. This card is very easy to install when the system is bought without any card.
The «Full-version» option is composed by an Audio Processor Card, Stereo Generator Card and Digital
15kHz Low Pass Filter Card. The user can choose to work with these cards though set at the keys of front
panel. All cards installed, the transmittion will have excellent audio quality, being not needed an external
audio processor, because high, mid and low frequencies will be being processed keeping the best
performance for the audio program.
The Stereo Generator Card has high specification stereo encoder that provides crystal clear stereo sound
and combined with the Dual-band Audio Processor Card and Digital 15kHz Filter Card results as a fully
compliant “plug-and-play” all in one MID power broadcast transmitter, or when used like FM exciter.
For future compatibility all settings are switchable directly on the front panel. The Stereo Generator Card
and/or Dual-band Audio Processor Card settings can be switched in and out to suit the requirements of any
external broadcast equipment that you may have now and in the future.
The EX2000 has as AC to DC converter a “Toroidal transformer” with high efficiency and step-down
switched mode regulator for the CPU, PLL and RF driver stages, and for the high power a ZVS switched
mode power supply (SMPS) of high efficiency. Being 220V AC the mains, the equipment will work normally
if connected from 185 to 265V.
RF output:
The EX2000 uses a couple of Philips (NXP) device LDMOS in the RF output section, the BLF578 is a RF
LDMOS transistor that assures high efficiency, low cost and now very easy to find on the electronic
components market.
The devices are combined by a Wilkinson coupler both inputs as outputs. This power section requires only
12W to get 2000W at the output.
As low pass filter, Sinteck opted by a Chebchev RF filter, that offers high harmonics attenuation.
The EX2000 is equipped by a modern SMPS system called ZVS, this system also known as
«quasiresonant» work converting overcome the frequency barrier by implementing forward-converter
switching at zero current and zero voltage. Each switch cycle delivers a quantized “packet” of energy to the
converter output, and switch turn-on and turn-off occurs at zero current and voltage, resulting in an
essentially lossless switch. the ZVS converters can operate at frequencies in excess of 1 MHz. By
eliminating the fast current discontinuities characteristic of conventional topologies, ZCS/ZVS results in a
virtually lossless transfer of energy from input to output with dramatically reduced levels of conducted and
radiated noise.
The noise that the switch generates is a major difference between PWM and ZCS/ZVS converters. Among
other differences, ZCS/ZVS converters have sinusoidal waveforms rather than the square waveforms of
PWM converters. The lower harmonic content and lack of sharp edges of ZCS/ZVS result in much less
excitation of parasitic capacitance and inductance, resulting in less noise. With PWM, the input voltage
switches at a constant frequency—usually, several hundred kilohertz—to create a pulse train. The
converter adjusts the width of the pulses to provide the necessary power to the load at the correct voltage.
At full load, the current waveform looks much like a square wave. The system allows almost 95% of
efficiency, very superior to any other SMPS offered by the market.

Audio inputs:
In the MidStation Series we find XLR balanced connectors to Right/Left signals and 1 MPX input (BNC
connector) 1 SCA input (BNC connector) and 1 19kHz RDS Radio Data System sync output (BNC
connector).
Soft touch keys are find in the unit, stereo or mono selection, UP/DOWN frequency change, internal MPX or
external MPX, metering of FWD or REF RF level selection.
Also, it is possible to disable the RF output through these keys.
The unit has an eye-catching visual, blue and golden colors on the front panel, niquel-chromium cabinet for
good grounding makes the MidStation Series a very beautiful equipment.
The EX2000 MidStation is a high fidelity broadband FM transmitter with a power output of 2050 Watts. It is
capable of transmitting the program signal and two multiplex subcarriers with little degradation of signal
quality over one transmitter/exciter. The linearity and FM noise characteristics of the direct FM oscillator are
exceptional. The transmitter is modular in construction and operation, and the system description given
below follows the signal flow through the varios modules and its sections.
The system assembly drawings are located in Section “Schematics” along with the module
schematics and system schematics are at the end of this manual.
Fm Synthesizer
The baseband signal from the audio inputs modulates the frequency modulated oscillator (FMOSC) in the
VCO Block. The FMOSC consists of a 80-110MHz ultralinear, very low noise VCO which is phase locked to
a crystal-controlled reference oscillator. The phase lock loop contains the frequency programming mode
which allow the synthesizer to be changed in frequency steps of 10kHz throught the keys on the front panel.
The CPU offers 3 velocities of programming for lock a new frequency when needed. The RF signal will
deviate +-75kHz (composite) or +-50kHz (mono) from the carrier. The output power of the VCO is
approximatelly 5 milliwatt.
RF 100mW amplifier
In to the VCO block, there is a smaller RF amplifier section, that amplifiers 5mW from the VCO output to
100mW through of 2 RF transistors (MMBF-J310 and BFR96TS) .
RF 700mW amplifier
The RF amplifier module consists of a one-stage BIPOLAR low noise transistor design, which amplifies the
input signal (100mW typ.) to the nominal 700mW driver output. The output is filtered to attenuate all higher
order harmonics to a level of at least -60dBc.
The RF signal from the 700mW stage is now amplified by a STATE-OF-THE-ART MOSFET from
MITSUBISHI, part number RD15HVF1 - This device is developed to assist a broadband “no tune” circuit.
The frequency operation in the equipment can be changed into 88-108MHz keeping the same output RF
power. The RD15HVF1 has a high gain, high efficiency and excellent linearity for this device.
The couple of 1000W pallet amplifier of EX2000 MidStation is matched by impedance. The 6W from
Wilkinson coupler (6W for each port, 12W total from RD15HVF1) is now amplified by BLF578 - a new
LDMOS from NXP. Each device has almost 26dB gain in the FM band. Circuits matched by impedance
have “no tune” operation, this means the RF power level stays same independly of frequency operation.
The RF level ajust circuitry operates through this section. When the equipment is set to 20W there is only
about 6V on each LDMOS, while the equipment set to the maximum power will be about 45-47V. The final
stage is totally protected against fails by the equipment microcontroller: voltage, current, temperature and
high VSWR levels are monitored and if any dangerous level is detected the processor will shut-down the RF
stage, protecting the RF transistors.
The RF low pass filter is located at the output of BLF578 pallets and it is made with 5 cells filtering the RF
signal. The harmonics are attenued at -75dBc (typ. 80dBc). The RF output is sampled via a dual directional
coupler with detectors that provides an indication of forwarded and reflected power.
Transmitter Control
The Transmitter Control section of the audio and power supply board has several functions. One of these is
to sense the PLL LOCK detect signal from the RF module. If this module goes out of lock, then the radiate
control logic circuit provides a signal to the power supply to turn off the +Vcontrol supply to the RF power
module, causing the transmitter to stop radiating. Also, this section detects if the VSWR level is more than
permised, so the transmitter control turn the equipment in «FOLDBACK» this reduces the DC level to the
RF power module until a level that allows the equipment doesn’t stop to work. All of these parameters can
be view through the LCD Display on the front panel.
The Metering and Status circuitry on the Audio, Power Supply, Temperature and RF sections conditions the
various system parameter samples for accurate meter indications, and drives the status LEDs on the front
panel.
The toroidal transformer converts the AC voltage (220V standard or 110V special version) into two identical
voltages of 22V, one of these will be regulated by a switching regulator (Buck) to supply the 4 Fans of the
equipment. The other one will supply all serviceable voltages, that are: +12V, -12V and +14V. All of these
are also regulated by switching regulators assuring great efficiency and consequential low internal
temperatures.
In the main PC board of the EX2000 MidStation, there are others DC regulators that supplies the voltages
required for its operation. The outputs are: +5V (main processor and displays) +8V for the VCO, PLL and RF
drivers transistors.
To supply the RF output stage and adjust its level, a ZVS Switched Mode Power Supply was developed.
The AC voltage from 220V is converted to DC through a diode bridge and filtered by a capacitor bank. Then,
the DC voltage is switched by ZVS mode and according the RF level set by the user this voltage can vary
from 5V to 48V supplying the BLF578 RF transistors. This way, if the user needs to adjust the RF level, he is
adjusting the DC level at the LDMOS (all RF levels between 20 and 2000W may be adjusted, like for
example 550W).
CARDS: ONLY THE FULL-VERSION COMES WITH THE CARDS INSTALLED FROM FACTORY, IF
THE USER HAS OPTED TO BUY THE EQUIPMENT AT ITS BASIC VERSION AND DECIDES TO BUY
THE CARDS LATER, THE INSTALLATION IS EXTREMELLY EASY (SEE DETAILS ON THE NEXT
PAGES)
The user can obtain cards for simple connection to the EX2000, the first card is an audio processor dual-
band, that processes independently low and high frequencies, always maintaining high the dynamics of
transmission. This processor can be enabled or disabled at the front panel. The audio processed is limited
and it will not produce over-modulation in the transmitter, in addition the sound quality will be exceptional.
The Stereo Generator Card consists in an AMDSB/SC stereo generator of excellent audio separation. Also,
the user can choose if the transmittion will be in stereo or mono. The parameters of this card can be view on
the LCD of the equipment.
The digital 15kHz filter card is suitable for who needs to transmit programming that the audio frequency
doesn’t pass of 15kHz. Is most important to place this card when is installed the stereo generator card,
because the high frequencies is not important to transmit in this case.
This chapter contains necessary instructions for the installation and use of the equipment. In case
some aspects are not totally clear, for instance when a user is using this equipment for the first
time, we advise the new user to read carefully the entire description contained in this manual.
Preparation
Unpack the EX2000 MidStation and check, before making any operation, that the unit has not suffered from
any mishandling during the transport. In particular check that all the connectors are in perfect conditions.
Check that the supply voltage value coincides with the AC voltage available.
Check that the power switch of the equipment is in the position “OFF”.
The EX2000 has just one power switch, located in the front panel, this switch is responsible to connect the

1070 W
When select the new power level desired, press the button
«ENT» and the new set will be saved, the LCD will stop briking
and the equipment will be working with this new power set.
The EX2000 is protected against high levels of VSWR. When you buy the equipment from factory,
the maximum VSWR level default is 10% of total power, this means, 200W. When you connect the
equipment to a dummy load (and if this dummy load is 50 Ohms) you will note the RFL shown in
the LCD is 0W, it is normal. When connected to antenna, it can be the antenna presents the same
impedance of 50 Ohms of dummy load, this level will be same as 0W, and if this impedance is
different of 50 Ohms, the LCD will show the corresponding VSWR level. If this level is more than
30W (default position set) the EX2000 will reduce the voltage on the RF stage and the LCD will
show problems on the antenna and the equipment will be operating in «Foldback». You can
manage this VSWR level through this menu called “Reflected Level Protection” up to 200W. If you
set to 50W for example, the RF stage will be open up to this limit and the EX2000 will be working
up to this, as shown in the illustration:
Rfl Protection :
Max Level : 50 W
Pressing the button “ENT” the level will start brinking, now you can set
other level through the buttons “UP” or “DOWN”:
Rfl Protection :
Max Level : 80 W
Once choosen the VSWR that you want, to confirm the position press “ENT”. The EX2000 will
save the new pattern of VSWR.
IMPORTANT REMARK: This adjust is only to protect the EX2000 by damaging the RF output
transistor. If you set to 200W the equipment will be more hard to turn on the Foldback, turning the
equipment more vulnerable.
If you set to minimum position you will be protecting your transmitter, but remember: setting to
minimun position this means your transmitter may turn on the Foldback more often, more quickly.
We advise that the best position is 50W.
Rfl Protection :
Max Level : 50 W
Pressing “SEL” the next menu will be the internal multmeter of EX2000. There, level of Voltage (in
Volts) and Current (in Ampères) will be shown. This level corresponds to the voltage and current in
the RF final stage. Also, the internal temperature presents on the heatsink will be measured in
Celsius degrees. The following illustration shows how it is viewed:
Vpa:42,3V <Temp>
Ipa:52,3A 33,9ßC
RF DRIVER STATUS
Pressing “SEL” the next menu will be the internal multmeter of EX2000 driver. RF power level that
drives the BLF578 couple, voltage and current in driver section is measured. Also, it is possible to
check what is the bias voltage on the RD15HVF1. The following illustration shows how it is
viewed:
RF DRIVER: 14,5W
14,0V 1,8A 2,5VB
This view produces to the user the measurements corresponding to the composite signal which
modules the FMOSC in the VCO block of the EX2000.
In this section, the modulation level is not configured by the processor. Note that the rear panel of
the EX2000 there are 2 direct inputs to the VCO block, that they are: SCA input and MPX input.
When the audio is connected into the each one of those inputs, the deviation must be adjusted
following this Composite Audio Meter. The measure “100%” corresponds to 75kHz of deviation of
carrier.
Note that is often recommended the user modules up to 100%, above this interferences could be
happen in another channels or radiostations.
When the Stereo Generator and Audio Processor Card is installed, this meter never goes to
measure more than 100%.
If the audio processor CARD is not installed, the transmitter will module the carrier acording the
audio level that is incoming. This way, if this audio has not a controlled level from a
compressor/limiter, it is possible that will be overmodulation.
The EX2000 supports the deviation of 100kHz without any kind of distortion. “MAX” in the LCD
corresponds to 110% of modulation, 110kHz of deviation. In some case, is possible to transmit
110% of modulation, but note that in others channels must not have any other users. The “CLP”
corresponds to “CLIPPER”.
REMARK: NEVER let the transmitter modules more than “MAX” in any case, overmodulation
causes interferences in other radiostations and decrease the covering area of your FM station.
If the audio processor CARD is installed, the transmitter will module the carrier acording the audio
level that is incoming from the CARD. This way, the audio now is controlled, not overmodulating
the FMOSC of the EX2000.
The level is measured in percents when 100% corresponds to a deviation of 100kHz of carrier.

This function is very employed when is needed to lock the bandwidht of modulation. The «HC»
circuitry is best thought of as a "bandlimited safety clipper." It operates like a scissors - without
producing out-of-band frequency components. It is followed by a safety clipper, aligned so that it is
almost never active if the audio does not surpass 75kHz of carrier deviation, fully preserving the
bandlimiting provided by the «HC» circuit.
When the audio component comes from any input of EX2000 flows to the VCO block, between
each other is the «HC» circuitry, and when active, any kind of modulation above 75KHz is
automatically cutted-off.

REMARK: It is very important you use the HC circuit turned-on when you are using an external or
internal audio processor. This circuit limits possible peaks coming from the audio processors and
this way, the EX2000 will not cause overmodulation.
The use of this circuit when is not installed any audio processor causes a bad audio
quality if the audio level is surpassed.
Using the HC circuit together an audio processor assures a good audio quality and safety that the
peaks will not cause any kind of overmodulation.

PRE-EMPHASIS SETTING
What is pre-emphasis?
Pre-emphasis is the treble boost that must be applied to all FM broadcasts to compensate for the
treble cut (de-emphasis) present in every receiver. The aim of his process is to reduce noise in
the broadcast path without degrading the audio.
The precise nature of the treble boost is defined by a time-constant in microseconds, which
describes the resistor/capacitor network that will produce the appropriate 6dB per octave treble
boost curve.
PRE-EMPHASIS:
50äS ~75äS
The absence of any pre-emphasis will result in a broadcast sounding noticeably lacking in treble.
Applying 75µs pre-emphasis will correct the situation in American receivers (50µs European
receivers). If you apply 75µs pre-emphasis when 50µs is called for, the received sound will have
some 3dB shelved treble boost above 3kHz. This is undesirable. Conversely, if you only apply
50µs where 75µs is required, there will be 3dB treble loss, which is also undesirable. You should
not have to change the pre-emphasis setting 50µs or 75µs or back unless you are relocating the
installation abroad where the standar is different.
However, whenever pre-emphasis is deliberately applied to your audio at some point before it
enters the XLR socket on the back of the equipment, by an external processor for example, then
you must set the pre-emphasis of your audio processor to “0µS”, because pre-emphasis must
only be applied once. Double pre-emphasis must be avoided because it will make a signal sound
far too bright and toppy.
In this menu, you can turn on or turn off the RF stage via software. All sections of EX2000 will be
working, except the RF stage. This resource is indicated if you want to set or test the audio from
your mixer or any other audio source, with no RF power on antenna (or if you are driving an
external RF power amplifier), this way the equipment will be not radiating.

1) INTRODUCTION
This chapter provides a guide to the various jumpers by a brief description of the main
modes of operation. The advanced setup procedure pages that follow provide a little more
information on each mode as well as providing some information on setting the EX2000 up
accurately if the user has access to some test equipment.
We advise to the user that this section will only be able to be understood by qualified
personnel and for those having experience in this kind of equipment. The internal
configurations of the EX2000 may be modified in case the user understands that this is
really necessary, once the equipments made by Sinteck Next presents pre-defined
configurations that will provide to the user the best condition such as transmission as
reception of them equipments.
We also inform the configuration of these jumpers made erroneously may causes undesirable
operation in the system which Sinteck Next doesn't take the responsibility.
Make sure the modification is really necessary before opening the equipment.
There are altogether three jumpers sections on the EX2000 which can be set - at the time of
installation - to establish the way the board operates.
The PC board leaves the factory with default settings which should be suitable for most
locations and requirements, Nevertheless, it is worth familiarizing the user with all the
options available, and checking that the settings are appropriate, as part of the installation
process.
The next page shows when is located each jumper, and the equivallent function of each one.
For a quick understanding, the following illustration shows what is a jumper connected
(position “ON”) and a disconnected one (position “ OFF”).

Installing the Cards in the EX1000
EX1000 MidStation - 2000W
EX2000 1200W Broadband FM Stereo Exciter/Transmitter
INTRODUCTION TO THE CARDS
The MidStation Series is equipped opcionally with cards that is placed on the main board of the
transmitter.
The user can choose buy the system without any card, and in a future, he has the option to buy the
cards and to install each one.
For install the cards, the user can do it with extreme facility, and to this work is not required
technical knowledge. It is only to observe the requirements and positions of each card and
nothing else.
For further information, the user can contact the dealer or distributor, which has enough
knowledge to do this work.
We advise to the user to buy these cards on the distributor, and the distributor to make the card
placement.
There are 3 different cards that may be placed in the EX2000, they are:
Each card will be explainned individually in this manual. Jumpers, how to install, trimpots and
other information about each one will be explainned in the next pages of this manual.
The Stereo Generator Card consists in an AMDSB/SC stereo generator of excellent audio
separation. Also, the user can choose if the transmittion will be in stereo or mono. The parameters
of this card can be view in the LCD of the equipment.

STATUS CHECKING:
LP:installed
If the message in the LCD is “not installed” do verify all connections between the Digital Low Pass
Filter Card and the Strider Transmitter Link main board.
VERY IMPORTANT:
When installed the Stereo Generator Card and the Digital Low Pass Filter Card, it is necessary to
insert 2 jumpers bypassing the Audio Processor Card, which is not installed. The configuration of
these jumpers is shown in the following illustration:
The Audio Processor Card is an audio processor dual-band, that processes independently low
and high frequencies, always maintaining high the dynamics of the transmission. This processor
can be enabled or disabled in the front panel. The audio processed is limited and it won't produce
overmodulation in the transmitter, in addition the sound quality will be exceptional.
AP Card
This illustration shows how is the correct form to be installed the Audio Processor Card:
STATUS CHECKING:

CLIP.
For the EX2000 returning to the settings made in factory (such as RF power set in 0W, first FM
channel, RF section turned off, etc.) the equipment must be reset.
Some customers have reported us that during a heavy rain with many lightning, the equipment
began to show some unusual characteristics, and therefore asked us how to make for having the
same settings that were made in factory.
Thus, if your equipment shows some faulty in its software, these following procedures should be
taken.
1) With the equipment turned off, press the buttons «UP» and «DOWN» together, like shown in
the following illustration:
3) At this moment, the equipment was already reset, and it will start to run normally, starting the
«Status Checking» until the fist FM channel appears, like shows the next illustration.
STATUS CHECKING:
RF Power OFF
FM FREQUENCY :
87,500 MHZ ext
After this, pressing the button «SEL» and changing the menus, go to «RF Power» and
«Config_Hold» menu, you will note that the both patterns are in «OFF»:
RF Power : Off
Confi_Hold: Off
The equipment was reset correctly. Now, you can configure your personal settings.
If you have any doubt about any subject of this manual, please contact your local provider or
dealer where you purchased the equipment. If for any reason they cannot assist you, send us an
e-mail asking about your doubt, it will be a pleasure for us to help you.
suporte@sinteck.com.br
This is the direct e-mail from our engineering staff. Do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
