THE FIRST JOURNEY WITH READING

From the trunk of memory: childhood memories, a bad beginning, a streetcar ride and an
absolutely unforgettable achievement.

I was four years old when my mother decided to take me to school. This was because I kept
saying that I wanted to learn to read. As the few schools for children of that age were very
expensive, and there was not one close to our house, she sent me to study at the house of a girl
who taught. Very common thing at that time.
I remember it wasn't a good start. On the first day of school, I came home crying. I had peed on
my clothes, and when my mother came to pick me up, I was inconsolable. I don't remember if it
was the teacher's fault for not letting me go to the bathroom; or if mine, for being too embarrassed
to ask to go.

THE WOLF AND THE STORK

Fable the Wolf and the Stork

A wolf devoured his kill so quickly, with so much appetite, that he ended up with a bone stuck in
his throat.
Full of pain, the wolf began to run from side to side in the forest letting out howls, and offered a
handsome reward to whoever took the bone from his throat. Feeling sorry for the wolf and
wanting to earn the money, a stork decided to face the danger.
After removing the bone, she wanted to know where the reward the wolf had promised was.
– Reward? - yelled the wolf. – What a bargain stork! What a reward, what nothing! You stuck
your head in my mouth and instead of biting your head off I let you get it out without a scratch.
Don't you think you're very lucky, you insolent animal! Get out and take care you never come near
my claws again!

Moral: Don't expect gratitude when showing charity to an enemy.
