• How is the ending of the story foreshadowed? (for writing)

The story ends with Ivan dead, and him never receiving his money after almost completing the
challenge presented to him. He was frozen to death. And did not complete the challenge
proposed by the lieutenant

• How did Ivan die?

Ivan died frozen and in kneel position in front of the large tomb. I think that he had a
heart attack because of the fair.

• Why did the monster kill Ivan?

The “monster” killed Ivan because he was very scared and could not maintain the
calm at the moment. Technically the “monster” did not killed Ivan. He was horrified
by something he saw or maybe it was his mind only.

• Is there anything you are afraid of in your life?

That is a very good question. Right now, I can say that I’m a little bit afraid of not
finishing my career. And my dream of becoming a pilot does not succeed. But I’m
mental strong and I will go through any boundaries. But I’m not afraid of darkness or
any animal.

• Would you like to live in a country where the four seasons are clearly marked? Why
yes/ not?

Yes, of course I would like to experience the winter or the fall season. I like the snow
and that stuff. I prefer cold instead of hot. It would be awesome to just go outside
and play with the snow or do some skiing.

2) What do you learn about Ivan’s character at the opening of the story? Why is this
information crucial to the story?

I knew ivan was a very fearful person. It was seen that he was someone who was
scared by anything. He was the typical guy everyone made fun of for being shy.

This information is important because it helps me figure out the ending. That he died
of a heart attack because of the fear that ran through his body. I could see that he
was very fearful and that this could have led to his death

3) Why Ivan accepted the lieutenant’s challenge? Give your explanation of his
action.

Personally, I think he took that challenge to make himself look brave. He wanted to
show that he could face his fears. And to show to the customers in the saloon that
he was not a “pigeon”. He wanted to feel like everyone else and be part of the
“brave men”. To show his courage to everyone.
