Chikankari embroidery: Origins, stitches, and designs; Zardozi embroidery: Introduc-
tion to metallic embroidery work, History, motifs, and technique;
Chapter 3
Block Printing: Introduction to block printing in India; Ajrakh: History, motifs, and
dyeing process; Bagh: Techniques, motifs, and color palette; Sanganer: Block print-
ing style and its characteristics; Introduction to Kalamkari art: Natural dyes
used, Techniques: hand-painted and block-printed Kalamkari; Themes and story-
telling aspects in Kalamkari textiles
Unit 2
Chapter 4
Weaving Traditions: Banarasi silk: History, weaving techniques, and motifs,
Kanchipuram silk: History and cultural significance of Kanjeevaram sarees; Weaving
process and techniques; Exploration of motifs, and colors; Pochampally ikat: Ikat
weaving process and motifs; Dharmavaram silk: Weaving techniques and patterns

Tie and Dye Techniques: Bandhani: History, tie and dye process, and patterns; Patola:
Double ikat technique and motifs; Lehariya: Tie and dye technique in Rajasthani tex-
tiles
Chapter 6
Rug Making and Tribal Textile Art: Traditional Rug Making: Kashmiri carpets:
Techniques, motifs, and designs; Jaipur rugs: Weaving techniques and patterns;
Bhadohi carpets: Materials, weaving process, and motifs

Tribal Textile Art: Introduction to Indian tribal textile traditions; Bhil, Gond, Warli,
and Rabari textile art: Techniques and motifs; Cultural significance and symbolism in
tribal textiles

textile art; Experimenting with unconventional materials and techniques of develop-
ing - Embroidery and Block Print Sample; Develop a contemporary textile art piece
inspired from the history of Indian Art.

Chapter 2
Basics of Weaving: Introduction to basic weaving techniques (plain weave, twill, and
tabby), Setting up a simple frame loom or handloomWeaving small fabric samples
using different yarns and colors; Combining different weaving techniques to create
unique textile designs
Chapter 3
Recreating Traditional Textile Crafts: Selecting a traditional Indian textile craft (e.g.,
Phulkari, Kalamkari, or Kantha); Researching the history, motifs, and techniques of
the chosen craft; Develop a project that incorporates the essence of the selected craft
