Dear Bapak Zaeorji

On behalf of the Department of Home Affairs, I am pleased to invite nominations for the 2022 Tertiary
Scholarship Scheme from the Directorate General of Immigration of the Republic of Indonesia.

The Tertiary Scholarship Scheme

The scholarship allows for up to three (3) officers from the DGI to each study a degree program from the
following list of four options:

• Master of Public Policy

• Master of Public Sector Management

• Master of Information Technology

• Master of Arts (International Relations)

The program, delivered by Flinders University, offers the opportunity for chosen participants to complete a
fully-funded two-year Masters degree at an Australian university. Since 2002, more than 40 DGI officers
have successfully completed a scholarship, with many of them subsequently pursuing higher-level education
or achieving notable career milestones.
The scholarship remains valid for approximately two years and covers all tuition costs, study/living
allowances, medical insurance and return airfares.

Timetable for course commencement

We anticipate that the candidates will need to begin their studies in March 2021. However, COVID-19-related
border measures, including the requirement to obtain travel exemptions and quarantine requirements, in
addition to visa processes must be observed in advance of this.
Initial engagement with the students will be undertaken by staff from Flinders University in early-mid
February 2021. Further information regarding these dates will be provided by the university in January, once
enrolment details for each DGI candidate has been submitted.
Additional information will be required from the candidates at a later date. We would be grateful for DGI’s
support to encourage them to quickly respond to those requests

Marital status and families

The participants should be aware that if they wish to take a spouse and/or family with them:

• There is no on-campus accommodation for families. Officers are discouraged from bringing their
spouses and children to Australia prior to commencement of official studies.

• The living allowance and stipends will be the same whether or not they are accompanied by a
spouse or dependant family members.
• Married candidates will need to meet a slightly different financial criteria to be granted a student visa
(whether they plan to bring dependant family members to Australia or not). They also will need to
demonstrate access to funds in addition to the scholarship - legally Home Affairs is unable to waive
this visa application requirement.

Next steps
We would appreciate DGI’s assistance to return confirmation of the three participants’ details via completing
the attached application form by Friday, 26 November 2021 and returning these via email to
ha.enqaqement.iakarta@dfat.qov.au
Should your officers need assistance with this process, or otherwise have enquiries about the Tertiary
Scholarship Scheme, they are welcome to contact Second Secretary Daniel Farrington (+62 21 2550 5647 /
daniel.farrinqton@dfat.qov.au) for further information about the program.
The TSS program remains an important demonstration of the Department of Home Affairs’ commitment to
the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Australia and we look forward to working with DGI to deliver
another productive program in 2022 and 2023.

Yours sincerely
