ACOUSTIC FOAM
FUNCTION: The most popular sound-
absorbing materials, it is in the form of
panels with different pattern shaping their
surface like pyramids or wedges. It is
designed to absorb middle and high
frequency energy. On another side,
acoustic foam doesn’t work with long-
range space because it can’t reduce
much high echo reduction.
APPLICATION: It is easy to install, easy to find
in the market, and affordable. Which is why it is
best to use in medium-sized places along the
lines of studios, rooms, and offices. They are just
simply use by mounting on walls or ceilings.
SOUND-ABSORBING UNDERLAYMENT
FUNCTION: It is designed for absorbing
sound and avoid unnecessary noise impact
on the floor such as footsteps sound or
falling objects. It has a wide varieties of this
underlayment especially in terms of the
flooring, there are acoustic underlayment
for tile, wood, vinyl flooring, and as carpet.
APPLICATION: Underlayment can be used
and installed in easy different ways. It can
be simply laying it on the floor in the form of carpet and when in the form of tile and
vinyl it installed by using cement or adhesive.
ACCOUSTIC COATING
FUNCTION: A sound “proofing paint”, it’s a type of
water-based paint designed specially to hinder the
transfer of sound waves or vibrations in the room. As
far as our research, these coatings contain ceramic
microspheres, sound-absorbing fibers, and thermacels.
Thermacels are tiny vacuums filled with a bit of
pigment, and it’s this pigment that helps muffle the
sound.
APPLICATION: It’s applied as a normal coating paint by
using roller or brush. It is recommended by applying
more than one layer and let it dry.
SOUND INSULATION
FUNCTION: Insulation that is alike to
fiberglass thermal insulation, but it’s
typically made from mineral wool. But when
compared to many other solutions, it is
more expensive and denser. Yet, there are
materials for sound insulation made from
used blue jeans and other fabrics. And it
can be used into wide range of places or
rooms.
APPLICATION: Sound insulation installed
similar to fiberglass insulation. Just filling
the gap between walls or in ceilings.
DROP-CEILING TILE
FUNCTION: Usually made from PVC, ceiling tiles
are ideal to use in a kitchen, bathrooms or powder
rooms, laundry, garage, and other rooms or places
where tile can be installed and appropriate. However
it is less effective than sound insulation or fiberglass
insulation. It’s washable, fire-rated, mildew, and
mold-resistant.
APPLICATION: The drop-ceiling tile is easy to
install, In order to put in a drop ceiling, the grid
system must be installed first as runners to support the ceiling tiles. When the grid is
secure, set the tiles.
CLAY BRICK
FUNCTION: It is basically like stone when
delivering the reflectiveness of the sound. Clay
bricks can absorb between 3 and 5% of all the
sound frequencies.
APPLICATION: Clay brick is used in the wall,
and if you add a layer of paint to the wall, it will
reflect most sound frequencies. Most especially,
if you add soundproof paint, there's no sound that can be heard outside of the
structure.
WOOD
FUNCTION: Plywood absorbs about .30% of
the frequencies of sound. It reflects sound
between 70 to 91% sound waves. While solid
timber is more reflective, reflecting 86 to 92%
of sound.
APPLICATION: Wood is used on the doors,
walls, or even in any furniture; it is also used
on the ceiling or for flooring. Wood is good at
absorbing or reflecting sound because of the
good reflectiveness of sound waves.
SMOOTH CONCRETE
FUNCTION: Smooth concrete is more
reflective than rough concrete. The rough
concrete can absorb up to 7% of high-
frequency sound. The smooth concrete can
lower the percentage of frequency of sound if
you add layer of paint the frequencies can
done to 1-2% of sound.
APPLICATION: Smooth concrete can be
applied to the wall to make it smoother, and it
can also be used on the flooring. Smooth
concrete has a good reflective quality, so it
can deal with the impact of noise.
GLASS
FUNCTION: Glass is like a metal surface;
the sound absorption of glass is 0.30. A 4
mm piece of glass can absorb up to 40% of
the frequency of sound waves. The thicker
glass reflects 90 to 98% of the frequencies
of sound.
APPLICATION: It is used on the window,
mirrors, and wall, as well as for skylight
roofing glass. Glass has a high
reflectiveness of sound, especially if it is
thick; it is more effective and more
reflective of sound.
