India. It is 3,745 km long and covers the North-South Corridor of the National Highway Development Programme (NHDP). It connects Srinagar in the north to Kanyakumari in the south. It was laid and is maintained by the Central Public Works Department. This national highway passes through 11 Indian states. The NH-44 came into existence after merging seven differently numbered national highways. They were NH-1A, NH-1, NH-2, NH-3, NH-75, NH-26, and NH-7.
