The work of Preparing Intemational Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented fon that committee. Intemational organizations, governmental and non- governmental, in liaison with 180, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the Intemational Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. Draft Intemational Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting avote. Intemational Standard ISO 19919-1 was prepared by the European Committee tor Standardization (CEN) in collaboration with ISO Technical Committee TC 44, Welding and alied processes, Subcommmiites SC 10, Unification of requirements in the Feld of metal welding, in accordance with the Agreement on technical cooperation between ISO and CEN (Vienna Agreement), 'SO 13919 consists of the following parts, under the general tile Welding — Electron and laser beam welding joints — Guidance on quality levels for impentections: — Pant: Stee! — Part 2: Aluminium and its weldable alloys Annex A of this part of ISO 13919 is for information only. © 1501098 ‘Al ight resened. This European Standard is composed of the two following parts: -Part 1: Steal: -Part 2: Aluminium and its weldable alloys. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by February 1997, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by February 1997. According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Introduction This European standard should be used as a reference in the drafting of apolication codes andfor for other application standards. It may be used within a total quality system for the production of satisfactory wel joints. It provides three sets of dimensional values from which a selection can be made for a perticul application. The quality level necessary in each case should be defined by the application standard or the responsible designer in conjunction with the manufacturer, user andlor other parties concemed. The level shall be prescribed betore the start of production, preferably at the inquiry or rder stage. For special purposes, additional details may need to be praseribed, The quality levels given in this standard are intended to provide basic reference data and are not specifically elated to any particular application. They refer to welded joints and not the complete product or component itself. Its possible, therefore, for different quality levels to be applied to individual welded joints in the same Product or component. Quality levels are listed in table 1. Table 1: Quality levels for weld imperfections Level symbol_| Quality level > c 8 elso ISO 13919-1:1996(E) ‘The three quality levels applications. ‘arbitrarily identified as D, C and B and are intended to cover the majority’of practical it higher requirements are made on welds than compatible with the above levels (e.g. for dynamic loading) such welds may ba machined or ground after welding in order to remove surface imperfections. ft would normally be hoped that for a particular walded joint the dimensional limits for imperfections could all be covered by specifying one quality level. In some cases, however, e.g. for certain types of steels and structures as well ag for fatigue loading or leak tightness applications it may be necessary to epecity different Guality levels for different imperfections in the same welded joint or to include edditional requirements, ‘The choice of quality level for any epplicstion should take account of design considerations, subsequent processing, 2.9. surfacing, mode of stressing (e.g. static. dynamic), service conditions (e.g. temperature, Environment), and consequences of failure, Economic factors are algo important and should include not only the cost of welding but also that of inspection, test and repair. Although this standard includes types of imperfections relevant to the olectron and laser beam welding processes, only those which are applicable to the process and application in question nead to be considered. Imperfections are quoted in terms of their actual dimensions, and their detection and evaluation may require the use of one or more methods of non-destructive testing. The detection and sizing of imperfections is dependent ‘on the inspection methods and the extent of testing specified in the application standard or contract. ‘This standard does not include detais of recommended methods of detection and sizing and, therefore, it needs to be supplemented by requirements for examination, inspection and testing. It should be appreciated that methods of non-destructive examination may not be able to give the detection, characterisation end sizing necessary for use within certain types of imperfections shown in table 2. Although this etandard covers a material thicknesses (penetration depths) from 0,5 mm and above for electron and laser beam welding. It should be noted that the permitted size for all typos of imperfection has an absolute, tipper Imit, Application for thicknesses above 50 mm for electron beam welding and 12 mm for laser beam welding is, tor that reason, usualy safe, but may be overly coneervative and may require special precautions, such as weld bead dressing in order to comply with the limits for reinforcement and undercut. Attention should be paid to such procautions during approval testing of the welding procedure and alternative requirements may have to be specified, if necessary. e1so 1SO 13919-1:1996(E) 1 Scope This standard gives guidance on levels of imperfections in electron and laser beam welded joints in ster Three levels are given in such a way as to permit application for a vide range of welded fabrications. The levels refer to production quality and not to the fitness-or-purpose of the product manufactured. This standard applies to electron and laser beam welding of: - unalloyed and alloyed steels; types of welds welded with or without additional filer wire; = materials equal to or above 0,5 mm thickness for election and taser beam welding When significant deviations from the joint geometries and dimensions stated in this standard are present in the welded product. it is necessary to evaluate to what extent the provisions of this standard can apply. Metallurgical aspecte, ¢.9. grain size, hardness are not covered by this standard, 2 Normative references ‘This European Standard incorporates by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications, These normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listed hereatt For dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications apply to this European Standard only when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For undated reterences the latest edition of the publication referred to applies. Ditterent types fof imperfection occurring at any cross-section of the joint may need special consideration. e180 ISO 13919-1:1996(E) penunves woo ss ‘suonDe}sedw! ou Jo 8ove ‘yt Jo vonewNs B42 Jo orsuoWIP WUNKOYy, soyous 243 Br BNaYOIYAR “WU Z rad 10180 = ¥10i ‘ap0urs 10) (y 10% “) wo}suoUNP wnaKEyy (e Arjsov0d sou Pours eq weus suonosi| —yLoz| UE (pava1snP) fod 40} Sinuy) pue svonIpuo BuImoNO} SUL] —_ELOZ. posoor| ZY a ¥ % 0054 wos wOss eee soyows ou soows oun sy ranoyorym “ww Z| st soncysium ‘ww g] 61 senayoiyAR "wUN S ‘104 101 G9 5 Y0]| 101 9'9 5 410] 201590 5 420 )] — @jBurs 40) (y 10 % “4, VoISUEWIP wmusHxEYY (e ny 0g weus 8 edu! 105 suum pue suopipucs Bumoro) eu] O07, Peninuied 104 panwied r0u| vor sype19 sae] Z 7 ON oer un | ueU Ponnuwed 10u penwied 20u] Penjuned rou] sei) sx9e10 o101W 1da0Ke 399820 Jo SedAt Hy, seo] t i c i vonsubisep usta syes9pow suewey ‘wonses0a.y] ON) s19na) Aiyenb 10) suol jody 40} saw, suopsopodu 7 oe 1SO 13919-1:1996(E) ©1s0 panuauos sayeus| aun si sanayoum "uu §1 101 6'0| isa wey yews aun sy vanaupiaa "wu OL 201 5'0 “wut g 301 82'9| ‘aun pepins ‘aauaidease Tp Ben -Asos0d pauiquien 10} “1 wiBue} prem perse}iy un 880] 8179 YaBUR] PIOM psIs9}]0 ‘21 A1160100 pauigWo [p Ayysovod paurquioo e pevepisued oq [rus cua 9s seo om dy passes 9q 14s Ausos0d se9u remy ut sa10d ‘orpupur a veemed 19 #000018 9UL (2 pe uy fonayiyen “uw aap s! 42609) vioz Aysouod ue (ps srane| Anon 1 suonoazradu! 40) simu yeved uonzayp e ui st onoelosd| E107 pezyeoor| | 091001 voneubisep!| svewsy] 0299 5 on, ‘yonae}sedw ead noeyedw) [penunved) z 91904 e1so ISO 13919-1:1996(E) panunues TeqewS 3 si venauoiurn “Wu woe gio 5 'u| ‘wu 119408 7'0 5 'U TREO ‘un 5) senoyaiu| “unus1 40 8 §2'0 5 4] 1 por 24, “sojdWexe moys mMo}aq sasnBi4 “suoNeIdde [ujeue9 10} peyroeds aq Aw vonenaua S]9N9] Aujonb 40} suoNI9}s9duN 10) Sy, pacpainasiete soca aie sal peruuead 10u penuvad i0u| ‘ww | 10S g1'0 5 '4] splem uONeNeUed gn} 10} 'y UOAEeUEd Jo 4987 z0r| ergdwoouy inant soem wut eeseo> es ec rueneps ou oe] _sverineuo9es| wad @a| waapniee yod 404 SHUN asp) 202 s6equNUS overea ee evowny| zea] Janette ost (enuavos) z aiae, ISO 13919-1:1996(E) ©1so penunuos ‘0 FOAOI “LBS OS! 998 ‘BuIpjom x0 30) 8 250 Due 10) sw 880 uonDe}ieduit 10} Siw "2 LBS OSI 0% BUIps0.00| (02 PUP SL'FL'EL'OL FON suono9js0duy| spjen oy 01 yond f | SW “opis pepo wor Burpjam are pue BusBnoB) 0g Aq pamoyog “s}evareU Pejo 10 BUIPIeAA CZ suns Buyees:| 29 WU BUIPIANA a ‘eyes9pows a avebuias sana} Aayenb 40) svonDeyraduy soy SWIM eyowoy voneutisep. ‘uonaeyeduy (panunues} z o1ges e1so ISO 13919-1:1996(E) ) panunuos yews oun 5) ews ous} sonayorum| s'0201S0'0 5 ul" ‘ww 1101 g1'0 5 4 ‘wu Zs0119 5 yl “wz 10rgi'0 5 4] ‘wweso1sz'O sy 105 sojeus aun ayes ey sojous oui siuenayoum ‘wu ¢ Jo] st ranauoym ‘wun ¢ 20] st JanayIyen “WW g 40) vopea| rgi'o + ww zo sul izo+ wwzosul 1e:0+ WwZ'O Sy vos} _-sued enisseoxa| oyows oy oyu ou} seyews oun ray "Ww § 10] S1 JanayoR) ‘UY g JO] st ZexayoiyAe “WU! g 40| a o+mmzo Sul izvo+mazosy| 1¢0+ wwzosy4 Z05| mow pjam ssoox3 sayeurs soyews ‘un s} Janay “wus ayn st ranaypnyan > 8 awe6uuis sjanay Anon 30) su0) oiewouow jadun 409 sy a siesepous syowoy (penunues) z 91921 ISO 13019-1:1996(E) e1so ponunuos sayews| yi st s9naus1yM ‘ww $'9 402 10 > ‘uuu ¢'0 10320 5 4 oun 61 10n0yDIUA ‘ww 1 4016'0 5 4 etoa! sis enooi8 o8eyULYS, ‘Ayaeouo2 100% ou ayes ‘1 8) anoyoum ‘uur $’0 302 1'0 5 sayeus yp 5) sanayoqum ‘ww 69 10170 5 4 ‘wu L401e'0 SY seyoue oun| jonaysnuen "1 2°0 )9n9} Aayond 40) €u% fw 309 SLIT eu sivas] sty sizo 5 tu 605 ouasej01 a sundae sompauinn neitpow svewou} 0239 si (panunuos) Z 94, e180 ISO 13919-1:1996(E) 01 pawnsse 5) soneds \de20y 209) sounds piont| BL N sayy pue aseq au 0 a eievepow alia jus 30} S1MLFY iso ISO 13919-1:1996(E) Annex A (informative) Additional information for use of this standard itterent parts are very often produced for different applications but to similar requirements. The same requirements should, however, apply to identical parts produced in different workshops to ensure that work is carried out using the same criteria. The consistent application of this standard in one of the fundamental cornerstones of a quality assurance system for use in the production of welded structures. There is 9 theoretical possibility of superimposed individual imperfections. In such a cage the total summation of all permittad deviations should be rastricted by the stipulated values for the different quality levels. However, tho value of a single impertection may exceed J h, e.g. for a single pore. This standard may be used in conjunction with standards for acceptance levels for non-destructive examinations.
