Chapter 4: Road Trip!
"Would you like to borrow another book today, sir?" Heather asked sweetly.
"No thank you. I'm gotta go pick up some snacks. I'm taking some friends for a ride later today." Barney said as he left.
Later, there was now a fast food restaurant on the playground and Schroeder was there as Barney pulled up to the window. "Welcome to Schroeder's Snappy Snack
make snacking happen in a snap! May I take your order?" Schroeder asked.
"OK, let's see. I would like carrot sticks and 15 ham and cheese sandwiches." Barney requested.
"OK. Carrot sticks and 15 clam and pea sandwiches." Schroeder said, getting the last order wrong.
"Uh no thank you. Not clam and pea sandwiches. Ham and cheese." Barney chuckled.
"Oh! Sorry. You want carrot sticks and 15 clam and cheese sandwiches." Schroeder tried again.
"I've got it now! Carrot sticks and 15 ham and pea sandwiches."
"Maybe you can't hear me over the engine. Let me turn this off." And Barney did so. "I'd like to order 15 HAM and CHEESE sandwiches. NOT ham and PEAS."
Schroeder's eyes widened. "Oh. Ham and cheese sandwiches. You should've told me. Just a moment, please."
"Here you are." Schroeder handed Barney the bag. "Your order of carrot sticks and 15 ham and cheese sandwiches."
"THAT'S why we're called Schroeder's Snappy Snacks." Schroeder said, "That's be three dollars, please."
"You're right. I'm taking my friends out for a ride today so I better get my car to the gas station, right away!" Barney realized.
"Well enjoy your Snappy Snacks. And come again soon." Schroeder bid farewell.
About halfway, Barney's car sputtered and stopped. "Uh oh." Barney gulped.
"Let me help you out, Big Purple." Peppermint Patty said, trying to push the car to the gas station.
"Oh thank you, Peppermint Patty. I'm glad I have such a strong friend like you." Barney said before pushing the car with her. They then pushed it all the way to the
the playground where Min was waiting.
"Welcome to Min's Motor Gas station, sir. You're almost all the way to the gas pump." Min greeted.
"Cars aren't that fun when you have to push them." Barney panted as they reached the gas pump.
"I promised friends I'd take them for a ride and now it's out of gas." Barney said.
"Then you've come to the right place!" Min reassured. "I'll fill your tank and have you on your way in no time."
After a while, the tank was full. "There you go, Barney. All filled up!" Min replied.
"Can we go for our ride, now?" Carlos asked as he and the others ran up.
"We sure can." Barney said. "But before, there's one thing we have to do. Does anyone know what it is?"

"Alright!" Charlie Brown said as he sat next to Heather and held her hand.
"Finally, I've been looking forward to this alllllll afternoon..." Peppermint Patty said, a bit tuckered out. "Who knew that car weighed soooooo much?" she inquired, m
others laugh.
"Look, Barney! Snoopy wants shotgun!" Lila narrated as Snoopy ran into the passengers' seat and dug through Barney's bag of Snappy Snacks.
"Thank goodness this car has enough room for all of us." Linus smiled as they were all settled in, with Min and Lucy in the front seat.
"OK. Let me just start the engine and we'll be ready to go." Barney smiled as he did just that and the car left the schoolyard and into the streets.
"Juan and I sing along to the radio when we go for rides." Carlos suggested.
"That's a good idea!" Barney smiled, before tuning the radio to a song they all know.
"Good question! Let's see what else we can find on here." Barney said as Snoopy changed stations. "Here we go!"
Barney:
Barney:
"Do you think you can find some more songs, Barney?" wondered Kathy.
"Let's see..." Barney said and Snoopy kept changing stations before finding a station.
"So don't forget, for the best clam and pea sandwiches in town, come to Schroeder's Snappy Snacks." A commercial played.
"We better find another music station, Barney." Pigpen commented, with Peppermint Patty resting on his shoulder.
"OK...let's see..." Barney muttered before finding another familiar song on the radio. "Ah, I love to sing along to this one!"
"Let's sing one more song before we go back to school!" Charlie Brown smiled.
Barney then tuned the radio to another familiar song. "Oh, here's a good one!" Barney smiled.
"That was terrific, Barney." Carlos said as they pulled up back at the school.
"Thanks, that was fun, wasn't it?" Barney said, holding a slightly woozy Peppermint Patty's hand
"I'm just surprised you found somewhere to park the car." Lucy commented.
Kathy spoke up. "My favorite thing was singing along to all those songs on the radio."
"I liked listening to the clam and pea sandwich commercial." Schroeder said.
Lila gave a shy smile "My dad always says I'm full of ideas."
"Your dad's right." Barney confirmed, "And it's always nice going places with old-and new-friends."
Barney:
"I love you." Lila replied as she gave Barney a big hug.
"OK, see you soon everyone! Bye bye!" Barney smiled and waved.
"Bye!" the kids smiled and waved as they left. Snoopy smiled, placing Barney, now in doll form, into the passenger seat and he started his car and drove away, gigg
winked at Barney who winked right back.
