Disadvantages of Autonomous Vehicles:

Autonomous cars present challenges, despite their potential benefits. LIDAR and Vision are two
essential sensors for these cars, each with strengths and weaknesses. LIDAR has an advantage in
providing a clear perception of the vehicle's surroundings while less affected by external factors such
as light. However, the current LIDAR production process is complex and costly, with the Velodyne
HDL-64, for example, priced at up to $80,000. On the other hand, Vision is less expensive but is
limited in its ability to perceive the environment compared to LIDAR. It can be influenced by the
algorithm's quality and environmental factors, particularly light.( Jianfeng Zhao, Bodong Liang, Qiuxia
Chen, 2018)

One of the significant disadvantages of autonomous vehicles is the cost. The cutting-edge technology
to develop self-drive cars demands huge capital, and the cost of these vehicles is likely to be
significantly higher than traditional vehicles. (Anderson, 2018). Additionally, the cost of maintaining
and repairing self-driving cars may also be higher due to the complexity of their technology
(Domingos, 2015). Moreover, significant investments are necessary to revolutionize the current road
infrastructure to meet the requirements of fully automated vehicles (Nikitas Alexandros, 2015).

Finally, there are also concerns about privacy and security with autonomous vehicles. The risk of
data breach and unauthorized access to sensitive information is inevitable as these vehicles collect
and store a large volume of data (Anderson, 2018). Additionally, liability in the event of an accident
involving a self-driving car is a serious concern (Domingos, 2015). Furthermore, an increase in
software and hardware flaws and hacking poses a risk to situational awareness and driving skills
(Nikitas Alexandros, 2015).
