WHAT IS SOCIAL IMPACT?

A significant, positive change that addresses a pressing, community identified social


issue in a sustainable and just way.
At the Center or Social Impact, we provide curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular
student experiences in six diverse pathways of social impact. Whether a student,
faculty, staff, or community member, you can participate in various programs and
events, volunteer or recruit volunteers, and enhance your academic experience through
our coursework, research, and scholar distinction.

Six Pathways of Social Impact

Working to address the immediate needs of individuals or a


community, often involving contact with the people or
places being served.

Donating or using private funds or charitable contributions


from individuals or institutions to contribute to the public
good.
Connecting coursework and academic research to community identified
concerns to enrich knowledge and inform action on social issues.

Using ethical private sector approaches to create or


expand market-oriented responses to social
problemParticipating in political processes, policymaking,
and public governance.

Involving, educating, and mobilizing individual or collective


action to influence or persuade others.

Donating or using private funds or charitable contributions


from individuals or institutions to contribute to the public
good.

Our approach
We develop active citizens who make social impact with our communities. Our
approach to this mission employs an innovative framework, strategies, and actions to
provide students with a range of meaningful social impact learning experiences and
skills that are applicable to their personal and professional lives.
We commit to our students and partners to be in alignment with this approach as best
as we are able and are open to discuss constructive feedback on this commitment.

What They do
The Center for Social Impact offers a variety of events, programs, academic
opportunities, and connections to impact partner organizations and basic needs
resources. Regardless of discipline or interest, there is something for every student at
UVU who wants to make an impact.
Who They are
The Center for Social Impact team is made up of campus staff, faculty members, and student
leaders called Impact Fellows.

Become a Community Partner


Establishing Approved Community Partners allows the Center for Social Impact to provide
meaningful and quality experiences for student volunteers, community partners, and faculty. An
Approved Community Partner signifies to students and faculty that the organization they are
partnering with has received appropriate training and orientation in working with university
student volunteers.
