Some people suggest that social networking and online communication

have increased social isolation.
Do you agree?

Technology has developed so intensely almost everyone has at least

one technological device such as a mobile phone or laptop. I agree that
networking and online communication have increased social isolation.
Firstly, many people now focus on their social networks such as
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter,… and do not care about what is
happening. The Internet allows us to communicate and access
information with the world simply by a click. Many post pictures and
status on Facebook and attach too much importance to reactions and
comments. They start to not worry about their family, their friends and
restrict to talking face-to-face. Besides, children nowadays are allowed
to use smartphones too soon. They make online friends and can't
distinguish who is good. This may lead to other serious consequences
such as being cheating. Therefore, the amount of time they spend talking
together is less than they used to in the past.
Secondly, social media can provide the reduction of intimacy.
Nowadays, people can easily call and send messages through apps such
as Messenger, Zalo, Uber, and more. This may create a thought of no
need to express feeling or have a face-to-face conversation. Some
students left home to study and work and rarely go back to home. They
can have thought that calling each other in Messenger is enough and do
not want to return to their hometown. Moreover, in restaurants or cafes,
there are cases that people in a table look at their phones rather than talk
to the person seating opposite.
Last but not least, athough people can make online friends, their
relationship may not last long. Beside virtual life, many have to work to
get money, otherwises become a beggar. Moreover, not all people show
themselves in social networks, some may fake it for bad purposes.
Therefore, we need to be careful when making online friends.
All in all, despite that Internet brings enormous benefits to our lives,
it may keep people isolated from their real lives.
