- General Practice Tips / Information -

1. Tuning: Standard guitar tuning is as follows - lowest note, to highest note / or Strings (6 -
1) - E A D G B e. Make sure you are in tune for your practice time..

2. Release Tension: Stretch your hands and take deep breaths. This will help your focus
and in turn, your playing.

3. Posture: Make sure you feel comfortable and ready to play the guitar.

4. Warm Ups: Warm ups are best when they are simple. The goal is the warm up our
hands and get our minds ready to play the guitar.

5. Technique: Practice techniques that we have been working on - Scales, arpeggios,

double stops, chords, etc.

6. Projects / Repertoire: Lets work on the material we want to present for upcoming
events - Recitals, gigs, rehearsals, future lessons etc.

7. Slow Practice: Always practice material slowly at first. This is especially important as we
first begin to learn to play the guitar.

8. Consistent Practice: Practicing 30 minutes a day will get you further than 8 hours every
Sunday.

9. Enjoy Your Time: Perhaps the most obvious, yet overlooked time of our practice is to
play stuff that we enjoy playing. This could be, rhythm, chords, melody, improv. This time
we set aside to enjoy our time with the guitar can be minutes, or hours, depending on
your goals you’ve set on your own improvement.
