MULTIMETER _-
»
Before operating your multimeter, become familiar with each control. A
clear understanding of how your multimeter works will help to avoid mistakes
and minimize measurement errors, instrument damage and the possibility
of injury.
The following section, in conjunction with Fig.1, will describe the proper
functions of your multimeter.
1. Function/Range switch
This rotary control is located ‘in the centre of your multimeter, and is used
to select the function, as well as the desired range. Your Digital Multimeter
also comes equipped with an “OFF” position, which should be engaged at
all times when the multimeter is not in use; this will help to extend the life of
your battery.
2. Display
3-1/2 digit, 7-segment, 16 mm figure high LCD.
3. Common Jack
Plug-in connection for black (negative) test lead.
4. “VIG? Jack
Plug-in connection for red (positive) test lead for ail voltage and resistance
measurements.
5. 10 A” Jack (use for 10 seconds only)
Plug-in connection for red (positive) test lead for DC 10 A measurements.Specifications:

Your Mastercraft Digital Multimeter is designed for hobby enthusiasts and
professional technicians. Equipped with 5 functions and 9 ranges, each
test position is easily selected by tuming the Function/Range rotary switch.
WARNINGS:
1. To avoid electrical shock and/or damage to your multimeter, do not
measure voltage that exceeds 500 AC V above earth ground.
2. Before-using your multimeter inspect test leads, connectors and prods
for cracks or breaks.
DC Voltage Measurement (DC V)
1. Connect the red (positive) test lead to the “VQmA" jack and the biack
(negative) test lead to the “COM” jack.
2. Set the Function/Range switch to the desired DC V position. !f the
magnitude of value is unknown, set the Function/Range switch to the
highest range and reduce until desired reading is obtained.
3. Touch the test prods to the circuit or device being measured, and read
the voltage value, along with the voltage polarity on the LCD display.
DC Current Measurement (DC A)
1. Connect the red (positive) test lead to the “VOQmA" jack. For
measurements as high as 200 mA, connect the black (negative) test
(ead into the "COM" jack
NOTE: For measurements between 200 mA and 10 A. connect the red
(positive) test tead to the “10 A” jack for 10 seconds only.
2. Set the Function/Range switch to the desired DC A position.
3. Open the circuit to be measured, and touch the test prods IN SERIES
with the load in which the current is to be measured, and read the current
vaiue on LCD display.
Signal Injection Function
This function allows the injection of a square wave about 2V peak ata
frequency of 30 to 40 HZ into an audio device such as amplifier to test if
the product is functioning.
1. Set the function switch to +L-
2. Touch the black test probe tip to the circuit ground.
3. Touch the red test probe tip to the point in the circuit where you wish
to inject the test signal.
4. A low frequency humming sound will be heard if the audio device
is working.
