Political corruption is the use of powers by governament officials or their network contacts for
illegitimate private gain. Political corruption undermines democracy and good governance by flouting
or even subverting formal processes. Corruption in elections and in the legislature reduces
accountability and distorts representation in policymaking. It is defined as the practice of leaders
who rule with a view to their private advantage rather than the pursuit of the public interest.

More recently, it has also been defined as the behaviour by government officials that violates
publicly sanctioned moral standards. The causes of this corruption includes greed of money, desires,
higher level of market and political monopolization, higher level of bureaucracy and inefficient
