1. How much do you really know about coral reefs ?


Answer : As l know and read, coral reefs are a group of coral animals that
have a symbiosis with a type of algae plant called zooxanthellae. Coral reefs
belong to the phylum Cnidaria class Anthozoa which have tentacles. I also
don't really know what coral reefs are.
2. Have you actually seen a reef? if so, what were you doing (e.g., snorkeling,
diving. fishing, searching for shellfish) ?
Answer : I see coral reefs, but not directly, only through pictures from the
Internet and watching them on television.
3. Where you can find coral reefs in Indonesia ? Check your atlas.
Answer : We can see coral reefs in the following areas. The number of types
of coral reefs in Raja Ampat is 75% of all types of coral reefs in the world.
Several Indonesian islands also have quite high coral species, namely the
Derawan Islands (444 coral species), Banda Island (330 species), Nusa
Penida, Komodo, Bunaken, Wakatobi and Cendrawasih Bay.
4. Are the coral reefs of Indonesia endangered in any ways? If so, what
threatens there?
Answer : The coral reef resource is under threat of extinction due to human
activities and global warming.
5. Why coral reefs so important to protect?
Answer : As a habitat for fish and marine animals, it is important to protect
the sustainability of coral reefs. Coral reefs can be good shelters for fish and
marine animals. So do not be surprised, many fish and marine animals that
live in coral reefs. The existence of coral reefs can be a very beautiful natural
wealth.
6. What is being done to protect reefs ?
Answer : The following things we can do to protect coral reefs:
1. Maintain the cleanliness of the coast.
2. Do not throw garbage.
3. Do not search for fish by bombing.
4. Do not take coral to be planted as a water absorbent on land.
5. Introduce coral "to children"
6. Socialization of its function to adults.
