“Postcard-perfect village — The image is a time blend.
The base exposure was shot during blue hour so that I
could stop down my lens to ƒ/11 for maximum sharp-
ness and depth of field. Then I planned to wait an hour
or so shoot the star trails.
On the right hand side of the image you can see that the
mountain is illuminated by yellow light. This is where the
very famous “Staubbachfall” waterfall drops 297m down!
However these days the waterfall does not look that im-
pressive as it barely runs water. However as the light was
turned on anyway it was impossible to get a clean image
of the night sky. Beside that fog was about to develop
making it even more impossible to get any usable shot. I
left my tripod with the camera on it and went back to my
nearby parked car and waited.

“Full Moon night February 10, 2017. It was already afternoon when I realized that there would be
a full moon later tonight. I’ve never tried a planned moon shot before, but always wanted to shoot
a moon next to Formentor lighthouse. So I consulted the PhotoPills app and tried to find a suitable
shooting spot. Unfortunately all well known and easily accessible locations wouldn’t work out that
day. I was so obsessed of my idea that I didn’t want to change the subject for that day. So I decid-
ed to pack my things together and tried reaching a remote place in the middle of nowhere which
wasn’t easy. After a 30min long steep descent through high grass and after climbing over various
boulders I’ve reached the planned spot. When everything was set up and the planned time had
already passed, I’ve realized that the moon was behind clouds and wouldn’t show at all. Very frus-
trated - not far away from surrendering my project - I’ve suddenly noticed a rose-colored circular
thing next to the lighthouse...”

“I carefully planed this shot to have the Milky Way
perfectly aligned with the middle of the lake.
Shooting and processing were challenging be-
cause of the light pollution from the city of Frejus
15 km away in the exact direction of the Milky
Way core. Moreover, in summer, due to the hot
conditions and the nearby sea, there is a lot of
moisture in the air that diffuse light pollution.
I used the “expose to the right” technic to over-
come these problems and I’m pretty happy with
the resulting image even if processing was quite
a job.”

“I tried a week before during the new moon
for this shot. The marine layer didn’t cooperate
that night or for the next several! Finally, on this
evening, I saw the marine layer wasn’t envelop-
ing the whole sky as it often does once the sun
sets. I called a friend to meet there at the famous
Beach Hut. The conditions were almost perfect
except for the moon. Between moonlight and
horrendous light pollution (downtown San Diego
is 10 miles south!) I managed to baptistery just
enough detail in the ‘nebulosity’ of the Milky
Way. Ambient terrestrial light and moonlight
helped add depth to the photo. This is one of my
recent favorites!”

10000 | 9 photos stitched panorama trips are the best way to escape the monotony of everyday life, taking a deep breath, enjoying the
silence and forget everything else that’s all I need for. This pano is made of 9 single shots and I´m
hoping it gives you the same feeling as I had when I stood there and admire the beautiful land-
scape. This time my friend Fabio Hain Naturfotografie did a great job modeling for me. Thank you a
lot, your presence gives the pano just the look that I wanted. The light on the horizon is the begin-
ning astronomic twilight, so it was my last chance to take the shot before the sky is too bright. Nor-
mally I avoid to have this twilight on my pictures but in this case I have to say I really like it, I think it
looks special ‘cause for this shot it has the perfect position directly under the Milly Way bow. At the
end, before some critical voices say it has to be fake and manipulated. I have to disappoint you, this
picture reflects just the reality. Mother earth is just that beautiful, she don´t needs any corrections.”

“It’s been a while since I’ve last posted and a lot of it has to do with the move over to Hawaii. I
found myself itching to get out on the sunrise and ended up doing a pretty short hike to makapu’u
lighthouse. I woke up at about it 4:30 and got there at 4:45 since I lived in Waimanalo. The hike
was only about 35 minutes up and by the time I got there I was in perfect position for the sunrise
shot. I ended up bracketing rather than using any ND filters for creating this amazing sky with the
cacti in front for depth. After the sunrise I thought I’ll go over the Ridge and just hike down the side
of the mountain. Terrible terrible mistake...There were cacti everywhere and these thorn bushes
that destroyed my arms. Not to mention the Heat haha. I want to thank @frank.shoots for the shot
idea and the recent meetup in north shore! Overall I look forward to seeing more in Hawaii and
gain some Seascape shots in so stay tuned.”

“Griffiths Head: Rarely seen at night, Griffiths
Head is a quintessential Maine rocky coastline,
with. Perfect mixture of rocky coast And wooded

in my opinion, one of the best places to spend
time with family and lunch in the state. Normally
inaccessible at night during the summer, I am
humbled to have been granted access to the park
hosting Maine’s first state owned beach. There’s
no lights in the park at all, making it perfect to
photograph the stars. This was taken in my third
trip here, with the first being extreme high tide
making this shot impossible, and the second
being a complete bust with clouds and rain
moving in. The third time was the charm, with the
tide back down to normal levels, the previously
submerged rocks were exposed and gave me the
angle of Griffiths I was hoping for. Nikon D810

“Shooting the Milky Way from (Cairo-Dubai) Egypt Air Flight: Few days After
I finished my two nights milky way trip in the eastern desert of Egypt, and
while reviewing my back to Dubai flight details, I realized that there could be
a big chance to capture the milky way from the plane window. The timing and
direction of the flight were perfectly aligned with the night and south direc-
tion projected on the right side of the plane. And so is my seat !!! Although
my window seat was positioned directly above the wing of the plane , but
from the 1st shot I realized that It will be Wow. , the wing and the flight logo is
actually adding some drama to the story. I used both my Nikon D800 camera
& the RX100 camera and the results were relatively amazing. The key element
for getting such result is to pump up the ISO as high as possible to reduce
the number of seconds the shutter is opened and by doing that the chances
to have vibrations in your photo would be brought down to the minimum.
One major challenge was the reflections of the cabin lights on the 2 layered
window and I eliminated this by closing the window half way through and the
rest was all covered by the dark blanket. The second challenge was getting
a clear long exposure handheld shot since using a tripod was not an option!!
, I leaned on the camera with all my body pressing it into the glass to fix it as
much as possible , The best results I got from the Sony was at 5 secs / F1.8 /
ISO 8000 , and from the Nikon it was 8 secs / F2.8 / ISO 6400. I cannot say
that it was a perfectly planned session , however it was not a coincidence, it
was indeed a blessing from God that I will always be thankful to.”

“4 years ago, I flew out to California to go to
college 2000 miles away from home. I remember
I was this little kid who cried on the plane with
sunglasses on trying to hold it in. I was “fearless”
or maybe just stupid. I was honestly terrified, but
that one step into the unknown opened a life that
has surprised me at every turn and moments like
this that come once in a lifetime. It was 7:15pm
and we pulled over on Glacier Road near the Taft
Point Trail Head. We only had about 30 minutes
left of sun. My two friends and I bolted out of
our car running through the trees, jumping over
rocks, and passing deer. We finally reached Taft
Point, sprinting to the edge out of breath we
looked forward. A girl stepped out from behind
the rock onto the cliffs edge and the sun slowly
began to set. The earth stood still for that
moment.”

“Bay of fires is great location for photography. It’s
absolutely beautiful with colourful rock, but also
it’s very challenging to get good composition.
Thanks to PhotoPills I can predict the direction of
the sun, which help me a lot in composition”
