TAKE FIVE MINUTES TO CAREFULLY

OBSERVE THIS SCENE.

Then, after those five minutes are up; set the model 3
aside and, without looking at it, try to reproduce it
on a blank sheet just as you remembered it. If using
a specific exercise as your model, you can use its
Practice Sheet.

Take the time necessary to retain the image and draw

it. Draw the image as if you were creating it from
scratch yourself, while at the same time
remembering the shapes that you saw in the original.

You draw using a model (either an image or a

drawing)... BUT USING ONLY STRAIGHT LINES.

This is a very simple method ... Ignore every curve 3

that yo u see before your eyes, converting each one
into straight lines, and using segments of different
sized lines that will be connected with each other.

Depending on the extension of the curve, use as

many short and straight segments as needed.
Within this freedom to draw all these lines, be
careful to not to over do it. Use the least amount of
segments possible.

This will be our reference when copying a drawing.

Compare the main or dominant lines with the vertical

and horizontal ones that were drawn from your 3
imagination onto the "window", which is also imaginary.

Using this base as a guide allows you to better

calculate the inclination of the vertical and
horizontal lines. Seeing the different variations, you
have a much more solid base with which to start
drawing or sketching.

Once you have drawn just the first lines and before
continuing on with your drawing, observe the model
image for a while.
3
If the first attempt looks proportionately larger, add
sorne loose lines to adjust and reduce the
measurements.

Work with a soft stroke, VERY SOFT, allowing the

pencil to dance and glide along the paper. Whenever
possible, let a line connect with another without
breaking ("Picking up") the flow of the line.

Lines and key points are a set of segments ranging

from one point to another of variable distance.

The segments and points are drawn according to your

own criteria. You can add new lines or extend existing
ones where needed.
4
You can draw as many lines as needed for comparing,
deleting and adjusting each area.

For this reason, you will want to apply as little

pressure as possible with the pencil, so that you do
not damage the sheet if you need to erase repeatedly.
