3. Four people respond in the comment section of an online magazine article about
food and restaurants. Read their comments and answer the questions.

Person A
As much as I do my best to recycle and use less plastic, it’s really difficult when
you’re as busy as I am. I’m almost never home and most of the food I eat is
pre-made microwave meals that I get from the supermarket. Obviously the packaging
is pure plastic and I’m not sure what a solution to this would look like. I tell myself it’s
okay by making sure to recycle everything I possibly can and hopefully in the future I
can find even more ways.
Person B
I’ve based my life around living green for years now and I’m always discovering new
ways to change my lifestyle so that it is more environmentally friendly. I think that the
media needs to do a better job making the things people can do to help clear, but
supermarkets need to start following these guidelines as much as possible too. It
seems that not enough people have realized the gravity of the situation we are
putting our planet in.
Person C
Just like anyone else, I recycle as much as I can, I try to take the bus and cycle or
walk to places when I can. It helps not having a car and living close to my job. But I
can’t help but wonder if just one person doing these little things is actually going to
make a difference. Most of my friends don’t pay attention to all of this, so would it be
a big deal if I stopped caring even the little bit that I do? Seeing a result would make
me feel a lot more encouraged.
Person D
I hear all this talk about saving the planet by recycling and taking public
transportation, but I just really can’t be bothered to change my lifestyle for it. Humans
have been living this way for years and it seems weird that only recently we’ve
started to pay attention to this. I can respect the people who change their lives to
save the environment, but personally, I don’t think that I’ll be paying attention to a
greener lifestyle in the near future.
1. Who thinks that there isn’t much of a point in changing their habits to help the

2. Who thinks that changes need to be made outside the home as well as in the home to
help the environment?
3. Who thinks that people need to become even more aware of the problem?
4. Who thinks that one person doesn’t make a big difference for the environment?
5. Who walks or uses public transportation as a way to help the environment?
6. Who thinks that they could use less plastic, but isn’t sure how?
7. Who says that they don’t have enough time to recycle?

4. Read the text below. Match the headings A-H to the paragraphs 19-25

19. Various types of vehicles can be rented in the United Kingdom. The choice of vehicle
depends on the needs of the renter. A large family would, of course, rent a big car, while an
individual might stick with a mini-class vehicle. Of the many different categories of rental
vehicles in the UK, some include mini, economy, compact, standard, premium, and SUV.
Again, number of travelers, as well as their luggage storage requirements, influence choice
of vehicle. To rent a car in the UK, one has to contact a rental company. Company agents
suggest the best options, depending on your requirements.

20. There are several things to keep in mind if you’re looking to rent a car in the UK. First of
all, there are many agencies to choose from in the UK, offering rentals at attractive prices. It
is best to compare the prices offered by different agencies before making a choice. The
easiest way to do this is to go online and check out their website. Many agencies offer
attractive offers and discounts. Online coupons and promotional offers can bring down the
costs of rental. Always choose plans that let you do the paperwork formalities beforehand. If
paperwork is ready, renting becomes faster and easier.

21. It is always advised to understand your car rental agreement. While booking your rental
car online, it is important to read the agency’s terms and conditions thoroughly. Agencies
may have several restrictions, which have to be understood and followed. These restrictions
must not be violated at any point in time. One can call up an agent from an agency and ask
about the restrictions. Paying extra for additional drivers might be one of these, for example.
These additional drivers must also provide valid documents. All this information is kept for
legal purposes to ensure protection of vehicles from theft or damage.

22. If you have an auto insurance, there might be no need to purchase CDW and LDW
insurance. Pay close attention to the insurance options you’re offered, however. Some only
cover damage done to your vehicle by another driver, while not insuring you for anything if
you’re at fault in an accident. It’s normally best to play it safe with car rental insurance, since
the additional cost is quite low compared to the amount you would have to pay should
anything happen to the car while it’s in your possession.
23. One must become familiar with a car before driving it. You don’t want to find yourself
driving down the motorway, uncertain of how to turn on the windshield wipers. When you go
to pick up a car, check its functions and parts. It’s important to check beforehand whether
there is any damage. Lights, signal indicators, odometers, and wipers must all be checked
too. If the car given to you is already damaged, reporting it to the agency is a must. If you fail
to do so, the damage will likely be discovered upon return of the vehicle, it will be assumed
you caused the damage, and the cost of repair will be added to your costs.

24. It is recommended that you return your vehicle with the same amount of gas that was in
the tank when you picked it up. Some gas stations offer lower rates. Keep a lookout for
these to help reduce costs! It’s common that returning a car late would cause you to be
charged extra fees, but pay close attention, because some agencies even charge extra if
you’re returning the car before the deadline! So, be safe and make sure to return the rented
vehicle on time.

25. If you are willing to rent a car from the airport, sometimes a shuttle is a more convenient
and cheaper option. Those who want to drive on the same day might consider parking away
from the airport. This will help to prevent unnecessary surcharges. Always check a vehicle’s
interiors before returning it to the rental agency. Many people tend to lose their possessions,
as they forget them while returning a vehicle. One must pay attention to the terms, and ask
for any deposit returns they are supposed to get back.

A. Tips for selecting a vehicle.

B. Extra tips to follow when returning your vehicle.
C. Avoid extra charges upon return.
D. Insurance ideas.
E. Things to know at vehicle pickup time.
F. What do I do if I'm in an accident?
