CRITIQUE OF ALICE WALKER

Alice Walker was born on February 9, 1944, in Eatonton, Georgia. She was the
youngest among the eight children of Minnie Lou Grant Walker and Willie Lee Walker,
who were sharecroppers. Alice was precious outgoing and adored by all, she by all
accounts enjoyed a happy and just want to have fun in her early childhood. Alice Walker
would also say she is the prettiest.
The worst moments of Alice Walker when she was eight, she was accidentally
injured while playing with two of her brothers; the shot from a pellet gun left her blind in
one eye and physically and emotionally scarred. Following the accident, she lost
confidence in herself. Her mother gave her typewriter, allowing her to write instead of
doing chores. With the help of scholarship, Walker was able to attend Spelman College in
Atlanta. She later switched to Sarah Lawrence College in New York. While ate Sarah
Lawrence College, Walker visited Africa as part of a study abroad. She graduated 1965.
After college, Walker worked as a social worker and lecturer. She became active in the
civil rights movement fighting for equality for all African Americans.
Alice Walker faced bullying many times during her early childhood. When she
was a young age, she believed to be a beautiful girl. After her brother accidentally
blinded her one eye with a pellet gun, she was struggling with low self- esteem, and she
was also bullied at school. But when the scar tissue removed from her eye, she could at
least raise her head she felt relieved, and her personality goes back to the way as it was
when she was younger.
Unfortunately, teasing is often part of growing up almost every child experiences
it, people already think that it is a common issue or a normal thing that usually happens
inside the four sides of a classroom. Bullying is present anywhere, as it happens not only
in school, but also in work, on the internet, or even inside one’s household. These bullies
may not directly kill the victim, but the abuse may cause trauma and psychological
damage to the oppressed, leading to execution of their own lives. By giving disciplinary
measures to the bullies such as counselling, and giving effective prevention and support
services inside each campus will help bullying to come to an end.
