The intro suggests different perspectives:

1. to benefit from social contacts, it’s not the use of contacts but the quantity and
quality of social resources
2. Marsden and Gorman find no effect of using contacts on wages
3. Lin suggest there is little consistent evidence that using contacts affects wages or
occupational prestige

Job Search Method:

Sequential: compare jobs one by one with the sequence of receiving
Extensive: compare jobs all at once to select the best one

Social Capital do not affects the wages and the probability of job offers via formal search

Question: does the “possession” of social capital really transfer to higher wages and
prestige? Or it requires the “actions” of using social capital to actually struck impacts?

Social capital perspectives:

Burt: structural holes
Lin: direct and indirect ties

is contacts exogenous to the level of social capital?

if it is exogenous: there will be direct relation between on the effect and outcomes
