AIS CONNECTION TO NAVBOX “COM1” PORT (with opto-isolator)

NOTE: The serial isolator (opto-coupler) is strongly recommended to protect the serial ports (NMEA)
from high voltages.

To connect the NavBox to the AIS, please proceed as follows:

1) Connect a 2x0.5 marine type cable to a free NMEA output port in the AIS Junction Box.
If you need assistance where to make the connection, please open the cover of the AIS junction box
and send us a photo to see the available connections.

2) Open the serial adapter (on the side there’s a small lock , open gently to avoid damage) and attach
the cable from the AIS as shown below :

As indicated on picture:
TRANSMIT+ -> Left IN
TRANSMIT- -> Right IN.

3) Connect the 9-pin serial adapter (opto-isolator) to the serial port “COM1” in the back side of the
NavBox

4) REBOOT THE NAVBOX

After making the connection to the AIS you must reboot the NavBox to start reading the COM port.
Keep the power button pressed until becomes Orange.
Wait a few seconds and then press again the power button to become Green

5) FINALLY CONTACT SUPPORT TO CONFIRM IF RECEIVING AIS TO THE NAVBOX

Note that maybe you’ll be asked to change the polarity (reverse the wires at the connection point)
Then you’ll have to reboot again the NavBox and contact again the support to check if all good
