CHAPTER 2

MARKET STUDY

Project Description

The Water-Bucket Filtration and Distillation System project intends to meet the

significant need for clean and potable water in the Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas community.

The project uses solar energy as a sustainable and renewable energy source to power a water

purifying system. A key prerequisite for human health and wellbeing is access to clean drinking

water. Unfortunately, due to contamination, poor infrastructure, and high expenses, acquiring

clean water can be difficult for numerous locales. The goal of this project is to create a locally

applicable, cost-effective, and ecologically sustainable solution.

The project will focus on designing and implementing a Water-Bucket Filtration and

Distillation System that utilizes solar energy to purify water. The system will be tailored to meet

the specific needs and conditions of the local residents of Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas. The

scope includes conducting research, engineering design, testing, and community engagement to

ensure the successful deployment and adoption of the system.

The primary target audience for this project is the local residents of Ambulong, Tanauan,

Batangas, who currently lack access to clean and safe drinking water. By developing a

cost-effective and sustainable water purification system, this project aims to improve the quality

of life for the residents and contribute to their overall health and well-being. Moreover, the

primary market for this project is generally households and businesses that want to improve the

quality of their drinking water. This includes homeowners, renters, small businesses and large

operations that are concerned about the safety and taste of their tap water. Other potential
markets for this product include campers, hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts who need to

purify water from natural resources like rivers and lakes.

Marketing Objectives

1. Identifying the market demand and potential adoption rate for a solar-powered

water purification system

2. Understanding the affordability constraints and financial capacity of the target

audience.

3. Evaluating the usability, reliability, and maintenance requirements of the proposed

Water-Bucket Filtration and Distillation System

4. Evaluating the viability of the Water-Bucket Filtration and Distillation System in

the local market.

General Market Information

The market for clean and safe drinking water solutions is of significant importance, not

only in Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas but also globally. According to various reports and

studies, the demand for clean water solutions has been steadily increasing due to rising

environmental concerns, population growth, and urbanization. In the case of Ambulong,

Tanauan, Batangas, where access to clean water is limited, the market potential for a water

purification system using solar energy is substantial.

In the market for water purification systems, there may be existing key players or

competitors that offer various solutions. These could include local or regional suppliers of water

filters, traditional distillation systems, or other methods of water treatment. Understanding the
current landscape of competitors and their offerings will help identify potential opportunities and

unique selling propositions for the Water-Bucket Filtration and Distillation System.

Several market trends are driving the demand for sustainable water purification systems.

These trends include the increasing focus on renewable energy sources, the growing awareness

of environmental conservation, and the preference for self-sufficient and decentralized solutions.

Solar-powered water purification systems align with these trends by providing a clean energy

solution and reducing reliance on conventional energy sources.

In Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas, the target consumer demographic for the Water-Bucket

Filtration and Distillation System consists of the local residents who currently lack access to

clean and safe drinking water.

Analysis of the Survey Results

Quantitative research is the approach we take in our study, and it allows us to find out

how many people are exposed to water that is of poor quality. We will also benefit from this

research design's huge sample size and emphasis on the volume of replies. Our survey approach

specifically combines paper surveys with one-on-one interviews to obtain respondents'

demographic information so that we, as researchers, may easily count the results of each

respondent. Additionally, one-on-one interviews are the most efficient way of responding to our

survey questions because some of our respondents are elderly and lack the necessary knowledge.

As a result, we need to explain things in a way that will make sense to them easily so that they

can respond to our questions confidently and without hesitation.

In total, we have 332 local residents in Ambulong, Tanauan City, Batangas. Technically,

the results of the data collected from them are favorable for us because they want a product that

is efficient and portable and will clean their water from different sources.

We printed our survey questionnaire on one sheet of bond paper to be the original copy,

photocopied it to save money since we needed to budget the money we had, and then we made a

letter asking for permission to conduct the survey in Ambulong, Tanauan City. This was how we

collected the data. After that, we arrived at the location of our respondents and began to request

that the barangay officials observe and acknowledge the things that were mentioned in our letter.

To correctly distribute the surveys, we employ Slovin's formula. The questions were consistently

and fairly dispersed there.

There are several questions in the questionnaire, which received 332 responses in total.

The occupation variable is divided into 4 categories: employed (32.83%) consist of 109 total

respondents, self-employed (26.81%), unemployed (25.30%), and students (15.06%). To break

down the respondents' age range in Brgy. It is divided into age groups in Ambulong, Tanauan

City, and Batangas. A total of 99 respondents, or 29.82%, are under the age of 18; 77

respondents, or 23.19%, are between the ages of 29 and 38; 79 respondents, or 23.80%; and 77

respondents, or 23.19%, are between the ages of 39 and 48; and 49 years and above.
According to the results, 91.87 percent of the respondents gather water from various

sources, while 8.13 percent do not. Additionally, when it comes to storing water, 36.16% of the

respondents use a drum, 6.89% use a basin, 61.64% use a bucket, and the remaining 1.31%.

While 51.48% of respondents claim that the water is unsafe, 48.52 percent believe that the water

is safe from various sources. Additionally, we asked the respondents if they used filtration and

distillation in their homes, and 30.12% (YES) said they did not because it was not safe for them,

so the rate of respondents for this was 89% saying that the water is clean when filtering and they

use it as potable water while 69.88% (NO) is not using the filtration, so they considered it that

they should have filtration and distillation in their homes, so 92.67% of the respondents said that

the water need to clean and filter.

The proportion of respondents who claimed they buy water from a water station to drink

was low; 44.88% responded yes, while 55.12% disagreed. Technically, the majority of them use

water sourced from several sources for drinking. Since the majority of them are collecting water

from various sources, we asked them which type of water they prefer to drink. Distilled water

received the highest response (62.05%), followed by purified water (3.31%), mineral water

(17.77%), tap water (16.71%), and the response that any water could be suitable for them

(0.30%). As you can see from the data provided , it is quite difficult for people to consume pure

water in the region. Even if they filter or distill the water, the locals are accustomed to drinking

it. So, we inquired as to whether they would be interested in purchasing our offering. 90.96% of

respondents answered yes, and it's excellent that they're willing to spend money on a water

bucket filtration and distillation system to purify and distill their water; 9.04% of respondents

said no, since they're satisfied with the water they're currently drinking.
Less than P500 received a rate of 24.83%, P500–P1000 received a rate of 15.89%,

P1000–P1500 received a rate of 8.61%, and P1500 and above received a rate of 50.66% in terms

of the product's price. People in the neighborhood tend to remark that the system needs to have a

fee, but a cost that is affordable since they want to see how creative the system is. Their

information will be useful to us as we work to construct the product precisely.
