“Mental Health Awareness”

Joeshela Saldua – Stem 1

“What mental health need is, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.”

Most people who are suffering from mental illness don’t talk about their condition,
instead they just try to ignore it. They struggle with how to communicate their problems
and sentiments. Due to their extreme shyness and lack of acceptance of their mental
disease, this is the cause. People who don’t battle with mental health issues won’t be
able to relate to those who do. The society put pressure for them to speak up about
their mental health. Here I want to talk to you about mental health so you can learn
about the symptoms. After that I’ll discuss how we might raise awareness of the
problem on campus.

There are more than 200 types of mental illness that have been identified, but
some of the more prevalent one include, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, bipolar
disorder with manic episodes, and depression. People who are dealing with mental
illness may feel incredibly intimate or very difficult to comprehend; this affects their
mood, thoughts, and behavior. The reason why many people experience suicidal
thoughts is mental health. These mental illness symptoms include difficulty focusing or
learning, as well as unclear thinking. Extreme emotional swings, including exhilaration
or uncontrollable “highs” long-lasting or intense irritability or fury. Avoiding social
interactions and friends. We mistakenly believe that individuals with mental illness are
trouble-free because they appear well or show no signs of physical injury. As a student I
will promote positive self-esteem, Encourage healthy eating and body neutrality.
Provide safe outlets to manage anxiety. Set an open-door policy. Offer mental health
resources.

Mental health awareness is important initiative to improve understanding of

mental health conditions and increase access to healthcare for those who need it.
Because of misconceptions and stigma surrounding mental health issues, people often
suffer in silence and don’t seek treatment for their conditions. With us raising mental
health awareness we can help individuals who’s suffering from this mental illness seek
help and they will be comfortable to talk about it without the thought that other people
won’t understand them. With this awareness, mental health will never be stigmatized
but everyone will be educated and aware about mental health.

“Mental health is not a destination, but a process.”
