Signal No. 1 in 3 Northern Luzon areas as

Tropical Depression Obet nears
MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) Number 1 was
raised over three areas in Northern Luzon on Thursday as Tropical Depression Obet
maintained its strength and closer to Philippine landmass, according to the Philippine
Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In its latest bulletin, Pagasa placed Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern
portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana and Gonzaga) under TCWS No. 1.
“Ngayong umaga, nagtaas na tayo ng Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 sa ilang
mga lalawigan ng northern Luzon. Particular na dito sa Batanes, Babuyan Islands,
at sa northeastern portion ng Cagayan. So sa mga nabanggit kong lugar, asahan
natin na within the next 36 hours, mararanasan natin itong mga pagbugso ng mga
hangin na dala ni Obet,” said weather specialist Daniel James Villamil in
Pagasa’s morning weather forecast.
(This morning, we raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over selected parts
of northern Luzon, particularly over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and the
northeastern portion of Cagayan. These areas will experience gustiness due to
Obet.)
Tracking Obet
As of 5 a.m., Obet was estimated to be 805 kilometers east of extreme Northern
Luzon, moving west-southwest at 15 kilometers per hour (kph) maximum
sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
Pagasa said that Obet will bring moderate to at times heavy rains to parts of
Northern Luzon by Friday and Saturday.
The state weather bureau added that Obet may further intensify into a tropical
storm.
Thursday forecast
Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos region,
Central Luzon, and the northern portion of Quezon, including Polillo Island will
experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the
shearline on Thursday.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies
with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
Warning: Rough seas, flash floods, landslides

Pagasa also warned of rough se conditions off the coasts of Batanes, Babuyan
Island, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.

Insight: My insight about this news is that I think that we should all prepare for the
Tropical Depression Obet because even if it’s not close to hitting us there might be
after effects or shocks that might affect other parts of the Philippines.
