Variables ;
Apparatus : lighter, needle, Bunsen burner, retort stand, boiling tube, clamp, electronic balance,
labatory, thermometer, measuring cylinder, test tube holder, plasticine
Procedure:
1) A cashew nut is weighed using a electronic weighing scale and the mass is being recorded
2) 20 ml of distilled water was measured using a measuring cylinder and being poured into a
boiling tube
3) The boiling tube and thermometer was clamped to the retort stand
4) Thermometer was put inside the boiling tube. Position of thermometer was fixed using
cotton wool.
5) Initial temperature of distilled water was recorded
6) Cashew nut was sticked on the needle. The needle was being hold upright plasticine
7) The barrier was placed around the apparatus setup
8) The Cashew nut was lighted using Bunsen burner and being placed below the boiling tube
9) Water in the boiling tube was being stirred slowly and its highest temperature was recorded
after the cashew nut was completely burned
10) The water in the boiling tube was replaced
11) Steps 1 to 20 was repeated using groundnuts
12) The energy value for each food sample was calculated.

Discussion
- Cashew nut
- Make sure that the nut is completely burnt before reading the temperature
- Make sure that the nut is put as close as possible to the bottom of the boiling tube
Compare the energy value of food sample obtained from this experiment with their theorical energy
values. Are there any difference? If yes, explain.
Based on diagram 2, there are difference in energy wave which is cashew nut is more higher than
groud nut. The cashew nut that we used to discover the energy value contain in it has more
chemicals that will burn longer than groundnut.
Conclusion: The hypothesis cannot be accepted. Groundnuts has a lower energy value compared to
cashew nut. This is caused by the fact that the groundnuts has loss its energy as it has been kept for
15 years
