Nitrogen Cycle is a biogeochemical process through which nitrogen is converted into
many forms, consecutively passing from the atmosphere to the soil to organism and
back into the atmosphere. It involves several processes such as nitrogen fixation,
nitrification, denitrification, decay and putrefaction. Certain plants have knob like
structure, which helps in converting atmospheric nitrogen in nitrate or nitrite, to
increase the nitrogen content of the soil. Such plants are called leguminous plants.
These plants contain bacteria in its roots, which helps in this work.
Q13.Write Significance of nitrogen fixation in brief.

Q14. Explain relation between Leguminous plants and Rhizobium bacteria.

Q15. What is importance of microbes those convert Nitrates and Nitrites into
atmospheric nitrogen?

QIV PARAGRAPH BASED QUESTIONS

Read the following paragraph carefully and answer the questions given
below.
Have you ever seen a garbage dump where animals are eating garbage? In the
process of eating the food waste they swallow materials like polythene bags and
wrappers of food. Can you imagine the consequences? The plastic material chokes
the respiratory system of these animals, or forms a lining in their stomachs and can
be the cause of their death. The polybags carelessly thrown here and there are
responsible for clogging the drains, too. Sometimes we are very careless and throw
the wrappers of chips, biscuits and other eatables on the road or in parks or picnic
places. Should we not think twice before doing so? As a responsible citizen what
measures do you suggest to keep public places clean and free of plastic?
Q13. Justify how the excessive use of plastic is harmful for the animals?
Q14. Is it correct if I will say “Floods in Mumbai is an adverse effect of plastic.”
Explain.
Q15. What measures can be taken to protect our environment from the hazardous
effects of the plastic waste?
