CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
PROJECT CONTEXT
The education system has undergone significant transformation with the advent of
technology. Rapid advancements in technology have revolutionized the way students learn,
teachers teach, and educational institutions operate. Traditional classroom settings are being
supplemented, and in some cases replaced, by innovative digital tools and platforms. The advent
profound transformation of the learning and knowledge dissemination. Within the educational
management. Online grading systems have become increasingly popular in recent years,
allowing educational institutions to automate the grading process and provide students with
instant access to their grades. The student grading system is a web-based platform that allows the
institutions to input student grades and allows students to access their grades from anywhere, at
any time. This system provides transparency and accountability for students. It can also provide a
more comprehensive view of a student's academic progress than traditional paper-based grading
systems.
The absence of a grading system can diminish students' sense of accountability for their
academic progress. Without immediate access to grades, students may be less motivated to
monitor their performance and take ownership of their learning. The institution also relies on a
third-party platform like Gmail and Microsoft Teams to transmit the students' grades. Utilizing a
third-party platform carries the inherent risk of compromising the security and privacy of student
data. It is crucial to verify that the platform maintains rigorous data protection protocols and
information.
. The main objective of this study is to develop an online web-based system by which the
institution may disseminate grades in a systematic manner. Grading system allows students to

view grades, providing transparency and accountability for academic performance. It can be
accessed from anywhere with an internet connection, providing students with easy access to
academic progress.
The general objective of the study is to develop an online gateway system by which the

time;
b. a system wherein the institution can distribute grades by the said platform:

3. To test and improve the proposed system using the alpha and beta tests.
4. To evaluate the performance of the proposed system using the ISO 25010:2011 or ISO

The student grades system can provide progress tracking features, allowing students to
see their history of grades and academic progress over time. Students can log-in to view their
grades and academic progress using a secure login page. Each student has a unique student
number, and password that they need to enter to access the student grading system. The student
grades system also has an administrators account that provides additional functionalities and
permissions beyond those available to students. School administrators or academic staff, utilize
the student grades system to manage and oversee various aspects of the grading system.
Administrators have the ability to create and manage user accounts for students. They can access
and update student records, including personal information, contact details, grades, and any

relevant documentation.
While the system provides numerous benefits and functionalities, there are also certain
limits to its scope and capabilities. Ensuring strong security measures to protect data privacy and
prevent unauthorized access is essential. The student grades system integrates with the
institution's existing systems. Account creation and access are controlled by the institution, and a
registration process may not be necessary. By not having a registration process, the institution
can maintain stricter control over who has access to the grades system and minimize the risk of
unauthorized access or data breaches. The institution has implemented a single sign-on solution
where students use their existing credentials (e.g., student number and password) to access their
online grades system. The student grades system was designed to function as a platform for
recording and displaying grades. Thus, the administrators are responsible for manually entering
the grades into the system, and the system simply displays the entered data and calculates the
