Dear Parents and Carers

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)

Our children will be having Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) lessons next half term as part of the PSHE
and Science curriculum.

In school we aim to help children learn how to respect themselves and others and move safely and
confidently from childhood, through adolescence, into adulthood. We deliver much of this work through
Relationships Education and Health Education, which are statutory parts of the broader subject, PSHE. As
part of our programme we provide Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). This programme begins as soon
as children arrive in school and continues until the end of secondary school following Cambridgeshire PSHE
scheme.

We are very aware that the RSE we deliver in school is only a small part of children’s learning about their
bodies, keeping safe, emotions, relationships and themselves. The majority of children’s learning in this area
takes place with you at home. Please find attached a list of resources that may be of use to you when
discussing RSE at home.

You have the right to withdraw your child from any non-statutory parts of the RSE curriculum. Since the
significant national changes to PSHE in 2020, the only non-statutory teaching – known as sex education, and
covering the topics of conception and birth - takes place in Year 6. We strongly urge that you support the
programme and encourage your child to participate fully in lessons to receive clear and relevant information.
Teachers are fully aware of the needs for religious, family and cultural sensitivity and respect the
backgrounds of all our children.

This week your child’s class teacher will send you a message via dojo with a powerpoint explaining the
objectives taught for your child’s year group and resources used. If you would like to view or discuss anything
regarding these lessons, your child’s teacher will also let you know via dojo when a drop in session will be
possible where the resources can be made available for you to view and discuss.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,

Ms Sassoli Mrs Deacon
