‘Power/Fun Solutions1. General Operating Instructions
1.1 Operating Temperature Range
‘The recommended operating temperature range for PowerSafe* SBS
EON Technology™ battries in hybrid applications is 40°C to +50°C.
‘Optimum ite and performance are attained at +20°C, however, with
the correct controls in place, cycle performance in hybrid
applications I not impacted by elevated temperatures (providing that
‘the maximum battery temperature i not allowed to exceed +50°C),
12 storage
PowerSsfe SBS EON Technology battery types have a shelf ie of 2
years when stored at 20°C Higher temperatures Increase the rate of
sf discharge and reduce storage le
Figure 1 gives the relationship between storage time, open circu
voltage (OCV) and state of charge asa function of temperature
1.3 Freshening Charge
PowerSafe SBS EON Technology batery types must be given 9
‘toshing charge when the OCV approaches 2.10 Votscoll or whon|
‘maximum storage time is reached (whichever occurs fst
‘The freshening charge should be conducted using constant votage in
‘the range of 2.29 to 2.40 vats per eel for a period of 24 hours. The
charge current should be limited toa value expressad numerically in

1.4 commissioning
Prior to commencement of cycle duty the battery must be given a
commissioning charge. This shall consist of 24 hours charge ata
vollage equivalent 10240 Votscall with no load connected.
1.5 Fast Charging
Fast charge techniques must be used fr frequent discharge cyl
‘applications. in such applications the rectifier output voltage should
be st at 240 Votscal (20°C)
1.8 current Limit
Innerent low internal resistance allows PoworSafo S8S EON
Technology battery types to accept in-rush currents up to 600% Cre
‘amps eg. PowerSete SBS 100FIn-ush current upto 1140 Amps).
For reliable eyele performance and to achieve maximum eyle ie
potential the acceptable recharge current limit range is 0.1 to 1C12

17 Disposal
PowerSafe SBS EON Technology balteres ate recyclable. End of fe
batteries must be packaged and transported according to prevaling
‘tansporation rules and regulations, End of Iie batteries must be
‘isposed of m compliance with local and national laws by a icensed
beteryreeyter.
2. Cyclic Operation Guidelines
2.4 Cycle Performance
PowerSate SBS EON Technology has been developed from proven
‘SBS Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) technology to provide the addod
capabily of delivering higher levels of cyclic performance as
‘Mustrated in igure 2.
In order to achieve the cyte ite shown in igure 2 PowerSafe S85
EON Technology batteries must be returned ofl sat of charge

22 Discharge
Depth o dseharge must be measured using an Ah counting device,
with an accuracy =1% of fll ange of expected discharge cycle
Currents. The elassifeation of the shunt should be minimum of 02.
‘low voltage disconnect should be used to protect the battery from
abusive deep discharge (ypieally 1.75 Votseal).
23 Recharge
(Optimum cycle te igure 2)is achieved by controling the amount of
recharge back int the battery toe level where 103% of discharged
‘Ahi returned, Controlled recharge ean be achieved by An counting
Using a device eapable of measuring float curont equivalent to
100mA/OOAN of installed battery capac.
‘Alteratwvely where An courting during recharge isnot avaiable, tis
possible to calculate the required recharge time based upon the
following formula
echargo time (hrs) =
{(alscharged An*03) | recharge current limit)*2+1

(echorge 240Vp2)‘The time to reach tll state of charge Is influenced by battery
temperature and charge voltage during the recharge.
1) Where Ah counting i used to control the recharge tle.108% of
dischargod Ah is returned) the battery votage can be maintained
ata constant 2.40 Voitsell provided that the batery temperature
is controlled at o below +50°C discharged Ah returned.
2) Where time formula recharge is used, temperature compensation
for charge voltage should be applied atthe rates shown in igure 4
Fast Charge Tomporature Correction
Where rectfior voltago cannot be adjusted to valuos >240 Votscall
ta componsate for temperatures below 20°C, the time to ful state of
charge will be increased, For adeitional information and guidance on
this, please contact your EnerSys* representative,

24 Data Recording
In order for the warranty tobe valid tho user must provide, by means
‘of routine regular data logging, the folowing date

'5) The time and date of each “event” (an “event is defined a the
sar (stop ofthe battery discharge, the startistop of the battery
recharge, the start stop of any generator input power or other input
power source, et).
Warning
In hybrid applications itis important that the maximum
‘temperature ofthe battery in operation doesnot exceed +50"C.
Continuous charge at 2 40vots/cell wil signfcantiy reduce the
battery ite,
