I am are overwhelmed in all humbleness and gratefulness to acknowledge my depth to all those

who have helped me put these ideas, well above this simplicity and into something concrete. I

would like to express my special thanks to my teacher who gave me the opportunity to study,

research and do an outreach program about teaching young ones about sex education for

community development, which also helped me and I came to know about so many new things.

Any attempt at any level can’t be satisfactorily completed without the support of my family.

I would like to thank my cousin Kelly who helped me a lot in gathering different information,

collecting data, and guiding me from time to time in making this research, despite of his busy

schedules, he gave me ideas on how to make this research.

Thank you,

Mark Julius M. Ilagan

of teenage pregnancy in the Philippines as of 2022 is 5.4% which is less than the record on 2017

which is 8.6%.

Philippines is lack of Sec Education, The word sex is still a taboo that forbidden for the young

ones to say, this research main purpose is to help the community to develop and by that the key

is to lessen the teenage pregnancy. This research is about conducting a Sex education outreach

program in one of the barangay in Pasay City. This research and outreach program will focus on

teaching youth about sex education. The research will take place at the Barangay 15, Leveriza

Street, Pasay City and teen will be the audience or participants, the researcher will teach them

about sex education to prevent teenage pregnancy that cause the Philippines into poverty.

and the community to develop.

2
Introduction

One of the rampant issue that country Philippines facing nowadays is teenage pregnancy, in

Philippines way of living the sex word is still forbidden for young ones to know which cause

ignorance about sex and having no knowledge and resulted a teenage pregnancy. According to

PSA (Philippines Statistic Authority) the rate of pregnancies among girls age 10-14 is increased

by eleven percent (11%) as of 2022, and fortunately the total percentage of teenage pregnancy in

the Philippines as of 2022 is 5.4% which is less than the record on 2017 which is 8.6%.

This research and outreach program main purpose is to teach kids about sex education and to

lessen more the teenage pregnancy in our country for the sake of the community development

where poverty, ignorance and having no knowledge about sex doesn’t exist. It will be hard to

conduct this outreach program because of Philippines traditions that sex is forbidden for the

teens to know, so the outreach program will take place at the streets in Pasay City and teach

random kids.

Philippines would become a lot better if we have teens that would become successful and to have

that we should eliminate all the danger that may cause their success in failure and the main

reason that Filipina kids future is in destruction is because on teenage pregnancy. This outreach

program will do its task to teach kids about sex and make the community develop.

Problem Statement and Objectives

According to the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), teenage pregnancy has a huge rate in the

Philippines, especially among the poor. 2/3 of Filipinos, who give birth before age 20, belongs to

the low class society. Data from the National Statistics Office showed that 8 percent among 1.7

million babies born in 2004 were born to mothers 15-19 years old. Young mother gave birth to

818,000 babies in 2000 alone. This means, almost one of every 10 babies is born to teenage

mothers. The risk is, almost 10 percent of the born babies from young mothers are malnourished.

As years passed by, the statistics are getting higher. According to the study done by the
Population

Institute of the University of the Philippines, more than 46 percent of teenage pregnant woman

resort to induced abortion which is against the law and the Church; 2 of every 5 teenage

pregnancies are unwanted ones.

The main cause of teenage pregnancy is lack of knowledge about sex and the problem is in the

culture of the Filipinos who they believed that children under 18 should have not a knowledge

about sex, as the time pass where we are in the modern world cyber technology has become part

of every lives of human and pornography is everywhere and as part of a community who wants a

development I’ll take an action step by step by giving knowledge about sex, this way the

adolescents would not be ignorant and the teenage pregnancy will be less. The government
should
take action to mandatory teaching about sex education in school as young as possible.

The objective or main goal of this outreach program is to help the community to develop in a
way

of making a successful youth who will help the society and lessen the poverty.
4
Methodology

To successful execute this outreach program there are steps or methods that had been used. The

first step in the process is to randomly ask 10 youths in the streets to teach them about teenage

pregnancy, the following will be ask; name, age, sex, and if they are open minded and have

knowledge about sex. The second step on this process is to teach them about sex and what will

happen on their lives if they got pregnant or be a father at the young age. After the teaching

lesson as token of appreciation and as thanking them for participating on this outreach program

they will be given a food.

Theoretical Concept Model

De Vera, Ferrer, Jayo, and Mendoza (2020) stated that in the Philippines, sex is a prevailing

taboo that leads to the dismissal of discussion regarding the subject matter. Treated with humor

or an uncomfortable overtone, this natural phenomenon leads to sexual ignorance and

misconceptions. Lack of information to the topic can lead to a low quality of life to not only in

the individual but also their children and those who surround them. With comprehensive

Sexuality Education or CSE, It’s students can make educated decisions when engaging in sexual

activities and the like.

And according to the research of Salvador, Sauce, Alvarez, and Rosario 2016, Teenage

Pregnancy had been a worldwide issue, and has raised large numbers of campaigns and

awareness to lessen its occurrence. The total number of this phenomenon is increasing each year.

5
Philippines is one of the Asian countries which shares similar situation. In a study conducted by

the National Demographic and Health Survey in 2013, one out of every young Filipino women

age 15 to 19 is already a mother or pregnant with a first child. Therefore, the government in

partnership with the different nongovernment agencies should exert efforts in resolving this

issue. Teenage Pregnancies are often associated with social development issues such as lack of

sufficient education andthpoverty.

because of ignorance having no knowledge about sex which resulted poverty in the country,
Based

on other research Philippines still the sex is prevailing taboo for the youth to know and the
catholic

church have most of the influence if Sex Education will be implemented to teach in public

Substantiation of Research

Paton, Bullivan, Soto (2020) researched and stated that, since about 2007, many

developed countries have experienced striking falls in rates of teenage births and

abortions. Why these falls should have been experienced in so many countries at the
8
same time remains a puzzle. One potential explanation is that public policy interventions

in the areas of sex education and related sexual health services have played a

significant role. An alternative possibility is that reductions in teen pregnancy are the

result of some other, more general, social phenomenon that has, perhaps indirectly,

affected sexual behavior amongst young people.

Reducing rates of adolescent pregnancy is viewed as an important policy outcome in

many countries partly because of the high economic cost that early childbearing can

cause both for the teenagers and their offspring but also for wider society.

Kim Cavil (2019) study and research a recent study showed comprehensive, school-based sex

education that promoted refusal skills was an independent protective factor in preventing sexual

assault and the authors further hypothesize that “pre-college comprehensive sexuality education,

including skills-based training in refusing unwanted sex, may be an effective strategy for

preventing sexual assault in college.” That same study identifies risk factors for experiencing

sexual assault, including adverse childhood experiences (ACE), and experiencing unwanted
sexual contact before college. Taken together, it’s easy to understand why 89% of likely voters

believe is it important to have sex education in middle school, and 98% believe it is important to

have sex education in high school.
