TEST PROCEDURE
PhaSedN Fine Sulphur – Wet Sieving
TPM-P003

PRODUCT
PhaSedN granules from Te Poi and Timaru Plants.

BACKGROUND
The weekly composite sample is tested to determine the particle size range of the fine sulphur in the
PhaSedN.

The urea is soluble in water and is dissolved during the wet sieving procedure leaving just the fine
elemental sulphur.

Target Fine Sulphur %

Greater than 50% less than 75 micron in size.

The crusher is adjusted based on this result.

APPARATUS
§ Sieves (1mm, 500 micron, 250 micron, 150 micron, 75 micron)
§ Ultrasonic bath (200WE)
§ Filter papers (150mm)
§ Wash bottle
§ Oven
§ Balance (+/- 0.01)
§ Filter paper holder

PROCEDURE
1. Use the sample that has undergone acid treatment to remove the limestone.

2. Nest the sieves (largest mesh to smallest)

3. Use tap water to wash the material through the nested sieves.

4. Apply gentle pressure to all except the 75 micron sieve.

5. An 80kPa water spray can be used to wash material through the 75 micron sieve.

6. Weigh the filter papers and label accordingly.

7. Place the filter paper in the filter paper holder.

8. Collect material from each sieve on the filter paper washing with wash bottle.

9. Dry each filter paper in the oven overnight (minimum temperature 50oC).

10. Cool each sample

11. Weigh each sample.

12. Record the weights and transfer to spreadsheet.

13. Sieve are cleaned using the ultrasonic bath (30 minutes) when the mesh is clogged.

CALCULATIONS
Use the spreadsheet to calculate.
