RSA Authentication Manager

Electronic Software Token Enablement
Thank you for purchasing RSA Authentication Manager® 8.x, the authentication and management
server behind RSA SecurID®, and RSA SecurID® Software Tokens, the convenient and cost-effective
two-factor authentication solution.
For information on how to deploy Authentication Manager and upload your initial
RSA Authentication Manager license, see the RSA Authentication Manager Setup and Configuration
Guide on RSA Link at https://community.rsa.com/community/products/securid. RSA Link also
provides guides for all of the supported RSA SecurID Software Token products.
After you deploy and configure Authentication Manager 8.x with your initial Authentication Manager
license, you can download and import the required software token license XML files.

Note: You cannot use electronic software token enablement with RSA Authentication Manager 6.x
and RSA Authentication Manager 7.x. These versions are no longer supported. Only current versions
of RSA Authentication Manager and RSA SecurID Authentication Engine (SAE) support electronic
software token enablement.

Download and Import the Software Token License XML File

The software token license XML file contains the serial numbers for the software tokens that your
organization has purchased. Before you can work with individual software tokens, you must import
this file into RSA Authentication Manager.
The software token license XML file does not contain sensitive data. The serial numbers and
configuration data is used by Authentication Manager, but the software token records in the XML file
are not used.
Instead, importing this file allows Authentication Manager to regenerate each token record when it is
provisioned to a device. The token records are encrypted and stored in the Authentication Manager
internal database.

Before You Begin

• Decide upon a security domain for the imported tokens. The security domain must be in the
administrative scope of the administrator who will deploy and manage the tokens.
• Your administrative role must permit you to manage tokens.
• Extract the license file:
a. Go to the Download Central website at https://download.rsasecurity.com
b. Download the Customer_Account_Identifier.zip file. All of the RSA SecurID Access licenses
that you have purchased are included in this file.

c. Extract the contents.

d. Copy the software token license XML file,
SalesOrderNumber_LineNumber_YearMonthDay_software_token_license.xml to a
location accessible to the web browser used to access Authentication Manager.

Procedure
1. In the Security Console, click Authentication > SecurID Tokens > Import Tokens Job > Add
New.
2. Enter a name for the import job. The job is saved with this name so that you can review the details
of the job later. The name must be from 1 to 128 characters. The characters & % > < are not
allowed.
3. From the Security Domain drop-down menu, select the security domain into which you want to
import the tokens. The tokens are managed by administrators whose scope includes this security
domain. By default, tokens are imported into the top-level security domain.
4. Browse to select the software token license file that you want to import.
5. In the File Password field, enter a password if the file is password protected.
6. Use the Import Options radio buttons to specify handling for duplicate tokens.
By default, Authentication Manager ignores duplicate tokens, and only imports tokens that are not
already in the database. For more information, see “Import a Token Record File” on RSA Link:
https://community.rsa.com/docs/DOC-76735
7. Click Submit Job.
