Class 10 - Mathematics

Basic Sample Paper - 02 (2022-23)

Solution

Section A
1. (d) origin

Explanation: The point of intersection of the x-axis and y-axis is called an origin.

The coordinates of the origin are (0, 0).

2. (d) 120°

Explanation: A chord AB subtends an angle of 60° at the centre of a circle with centre O.

TA and TB are tangents drawn to the circle.

Then, ∠ATB = 180° – ∠AOB = 180° – 60° = 120°

3. (c) 0

Explanation: An event which has no chance of occurrence is called an impossible event.

for example: The probability of getting more than 6  when a die is thrown is an impossible event because the highest
number in a die is 6

The probability of an impossible event is always 0.

4. (d) ordinate

Explanation: The distance of a point from the x-axis is the y (vertical) coordinate of the point and is called ordinate.
5. (a) coincident

Explanation: Given: a1 = 5, a2 = -10, b1 = -3, b2 = 6, c1 = 11 and c2 =-22

a1 = 5, a2 = -10, b1 = -3, b2 = 6, c1 = 11 and c2 = -22

a1 5 1 b1 −3 1 c1 11 1
Here,  = = − , = = − , = = −

a2 − 10 2 b2 6 2 c2 − 22 2
a1 b1 c1
∵  a = b2
= c2

2
Therefore, the pair of given linear equations is coincident.

6. (c) 2 a 2 + b 2

Explanation: The distance between the points (a, b) and (-a, -b)

= √(− a − a) 2 + (− b − b) 2

= √4a 2 + 4b 2

= 2√ a 2 + b 2

7. (c) 0.95

Explanation: We know that

P(E) + P(not E) = 1

∴   P(not E) = 1 - P(E)

= 1 - 0.05

= 0.95
8. (a) 10 cm

Explanation:

It is clear that the length of diagonal of a cube can be inscribed in a sphere is equal to the diameter of the circle AF.

∴ Length of diagonal = 2 × r

= 2  × 5

= 10 cm
9. (b) 1.6

Explanation: Probability of occurrence of an event cannot be >1 and here the given probability is 1.6 hence it cannot be
true.
10. (d) 13 and 14

Explanation: Let the one number be x. As the sum  of numbers is 27, then the other number will be (27 - x)

According to question

x(27 - x) = 182

⇒  27x - x2 = 182

⇒  x2 - 27x + 182 = 0

⇒  x2 - 14x - 13x + 182 = 0

⇒  x(x - 14) -13(x - 14) = 0

⇒  (x - 13)(x - 14) = 0

⇒  x - 13 = 0 and x - 14 = 0

x = 13 and x = 14
Now, the other number = 27 - 13 = 14 and 27 - 14 = 13

Therefore the required two numbers are 13 and 14.

11. (b) 1 real root

Explanation: Given: (x + 1)2 - x2 = 0

⇒  x2 + 1 + 2x - x2 = 0

⇒  2x + 1 = 0

−1
⇒  x =

2
Therefore, (x + 1)2 - x2 = 0 is a linear polynomial and has one real root.
12. (b) 2

Explanation: Since secθ = √1 + tan2θ

∴ secθ = √1 + (√3 )2

= √1 + 3 = √4 = 2
13. (d) an irrational number

Explanation: (2 + √2) is an irrational number.

8 / 20
myCBSEguide
If it is rational, then the difference of two rational is rational.

∴ (2 + √2) − 2 = √2  = irrational, which is a contradiction.

Hence, (2 + √2), is an irrational number.

14. (a) -5

Explanation: Since x-coordinate of a point is called abscissa.

Therefore, the abscissa is -5.

15. (b) line of sight

Explanation: The line of sight is the imaginary line drawn from the eye of an observer to the point in the object viewed
by the observer. The angle between the line of sight and the ground is called angle of elevation
16. (b) median

Explanation: The measure of central tendency that can be obtained graphically is Median. The median is less affected
by outliers and skewed data distribution i.e. when the distribution is not symmetrical.
17. (d) 2

Explanation: Since 7 + 3 = 10

The least prime factor of a + b has to be 2; unless a + b is a prime number greater than 2.

Suppose a + b is a prime number greater than 2. Then a + b must be an odd number

and one of 'a' or 'b' must be an even number.

Suppose that 'a' is even. Then the least prime factor of a is 2; which is not 3 or 7. So 'a' can not be an even number nor
can b be an even number. Hence a + b can not be a prime number greater than 2 if the least prime factor of a is 3 and b is
7.

Thus the answer is 2.

18. (c) are coincident

Explanation: Given: a1 = 9, a2 = 18, b1 = 3, b2 = 6, c1 = 12 and c2 =24

a1 = 9, a2 = 18, b1 = 3, b2 = 6, c1 = 12 and c2 = 24

a1 9 1 b1 3 1 c1 12 1
Here,  = = , = = , = =

a2 18 2 b2 6 2 c2 24 2
a1 b1 c1
∵  a = b2
= c2

2
Therefore, the lines are coincident.
19. (d) A is false but R is true.

3072
Explanation: 16
 = 192  ≠ 162
20. (a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.

Explanation: Applicability of converse of Basic Proportionality Theorem, i.e., of Thale’s theorem.

Section B
21. There are 13 (8 + 5) fish out of which one can be chosen in 13 ways.

Total number of elementary events = 13

There are 5 male fish out of which one male fish can be chosen in 5 ways.

Favourable number of elementary events = 5

5
Hence, required probability  =

22. 5 x - 4 y - 8 = 0

7 x + 6 y - 9 = 0

Here, a1= 5, b1 = -4, c1= 8

a2= 7, b2= 6, c2 = 9

Hence, the lines representing the given pair of linear equations intersect at the point and the equations are consistent
having unique solution.

Condition for coincident lines,

a1/a2 = b1/b2 = c1/c2;

No, given pair of linear equations are

x 2 5
+y+ = 0 and 4x + 8y + = 0

2 5 16
Comparing with ax + by + c = 0;

Here, a1 = 1/2, b1 = 1, c1 = 2/5;

And a2 = 4, b2 = 8, c2 = 5/16;

a1 /a2 = 1/8

b1 /b2 = 1/8

c1 /c2 = 32/25

Here, a1/a2 = b1/b2 ≠  c1/c2, i.e. parallel lines

Hence, the given pair of linear equations has no solution.

23. The quadratic equation is given as: 3x2 – x – 4

(Now we will factorize 1 in such a way that the product of factors is equal to -12 and the sum is equal to 1)

= 3x2 - 4x + 3x - 4

= x(3x - 4) + 1(3x - 4)= (3x – 4 )(x + 1)

The value of 3x2 − x − 4 is zero when 3x − 4 = 0 or x + 1 = 0,

4
when  x = 3
 or x = − 1

4
Therefore, the zeroes of 3x2 − x − 4 are  3  and -1

4 1 − ( −1) −  coefficient of x

Sum of zeroes =  3 + ( − 1) = 3
= 3

Product of zeroes = ( − 1) = =

3 3  coefficient of x 2
Hence verified.
24. We want to find coordinates of point A. AB is the diameter and coordinates of centerare (2, -3) and, coordinates of point
B are (1, 4).

Let coordinates of point A are (x, y). Using section formula, we get

x+1

2
⇒ 4 = x + 1

⇒ x = 3

Using section formula, we get

4+y
−3 =

2
⇒ 4 + y = −6

⇒ y =− 6 − 4 = −10

Therefore, Coordinates of point A are (3, −10).

Let O be the centre of the given circle.

Then, OP = 10 cm. Also, PT = 8 cm.

Join OT.

Now, PT is a tangent at T and OT is the radius through the point of contact T.

∴ OT ⊥ PT

In the right ΔOTP

we have

OP2 = OT2 + PT2 [by Pythagoras' theorem]

⇒  OT =  OP 2 − PT 2 = √ √(10) 2 − (8) 2cm = √36cm = 6cm.

Hence, the radius of the circle is 6 cm.

The greatest number of cartons is the HCF of 144 and 90

Now the prime factorization of 144 and 90 are

144 = 16 × 9 = 2 4  ×  32.

90 = 2 × 3 × 3 × 5 = 2 × 3 2 × 5

HCF (144,90)= 2 ×  32 = 18

∴  The greatest number of cartons each stack would have= 18.

29. We know that, the sum of three angles of a triangle is 180o.

In △PQR,  ∠P + ∠Q + ∠R = 180o

⇒  55o + 25o + ∠R = 180o

⇒  ∠R = 180o - (55o + 25o) = 180o – 80o =100o

⇒   ∠T = 180° - (25o + 100o)

In △PQR and  △TSM, we have

∠P = ∠T, ∠Q = ∠S,

and  ∠R = ∠M

Therefore, △PQR ~ △TSM [since, all corresponding angles are equal]

Hence, △QPR is not similar to △TSM, since correct correspondence is P ↔ T, Q < r ↔  S and R ↔  M.

33. Given:

ABCD is a trapezium,

Diagonals AC and BD are intersect at 0.

To prove: PQ || AB || DC.

PO = QO
Concepts Used:

AAA Similarity Criterion: If all three angles of a triangle equals to angles of another triangle, then both the triangles are
similar.Basic Proportionality theorem: If a line is parallel to a side of a triangle which intersects the other sides into two
distinct points, then the line divides those sides in proportion

Proof:

In △ABD and △POD,

PO || AB      ...[ ∵  PQ || AB]

∠D = ∠D     ...[common angle]

∠ABD = ∠POD   ...[corresponding angles]

∴  △ABD  ∼  △POD  ...[by AAA similarity criterion]

Then,

OP/AB = PD/AD …(i)    [by basic proportionality theorem]

In △ABC and △OQC,

OQ || AB    ...[ ∵  OQ || AB]

∠C = ∠C  ...[common angle]

∠BAC = ∠QOC    ...[corresponding angle]

∴  △ABC  ∼  △OQC   ...[by AAA similarity criterion]

Then,

OQ/AB = QC/BC …(ii)    ...[by basic proportionality theorem]

Now, in △ADC,

OP || DC

∴  AP/PD = OA/OC      ...[by basic proportionality theorem] …(iii)

In △ABC, OQ || AB

∴  BQ/QC = OA/OC     ...[by basic proportionality theorem] …(iv)

From Equation (iii) and (iv),

AP/PD = BQ/QC

Adding 1 on both sides, we get,

= AP/PD + 1 = BQ/QC + 1

= ((AP + PD))/PD = (BQ + QC)/QC

= AD/PD = BC/QC

= PD/AD = QC/BC

= OP/AB = OQ/BC    ...[from Equation (i) and (ii)]

⇒ OP/AB = OQ/AB    ...[from Equation (iii)]

⇒ OP = OQ

Hence proved.
