Class 10 - Mathematics

Basic Sample Paper - 04 (2022-23)

Solution

Section A
1. (c) Coordinate Geometry

Explanation: Coordinate Geometry is an algebraic tool for studying geometry.

2. (c) AB + CD = BC + AD

Explanation:

Property: If two tangents are drawn to a circle from one external point, then their tangent segments (lines joining the
external point and the points of tangency on circle) are equal.

By the above property,

AP = AS (tangent from A)

BP = BQ (tangent from B)

CR = CQ (tangent from C)

DR = DS (tangent from D)

Now we add above 4 equations,

AP + BP + CR + DR = AS + BQ + CQ + DS

⇒  AB + CD = BC + AD    [ ∵  AP + BP = AB, CR + DR = CD, AS + DS = AD, BQ + CQ = BC]

Hence, the right option is AB + CD = BC + AD

3. (b) 4

Explanation: Probability of guessing the correct answer

⇒x= 3
= 4

∴ x=4
4. (d) 2 units

Explanation: The distance from y-axis is equal to the x-coordinate, so distance = 2 units
5. (d) intersect only at a point

Explanation: A system of two linear equations in two variables is consistent, if their graphs intersect only at a point,
because it has a unique solution or they may coincide with each other giving infinite solutions.
6. (a) 8

Explanation: By using the distance formula:

d2 = (x2 - x1)2 + (y2 - y1)2

Lets calculate the distance between the points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2)

We have;

x1 = 0, x2 = 0

y1 = 6, y2 = - 2

d2 = (0 – 0)2 + ( - 2 - 6)2

d =  (0) 2 + ( − 8) 2

d = √64

d = 8 units

So, the distance between A (0, 6) and B (0, - 2) = 8

7. (c) 13

Explanation: Number of all possible outcomes = 52.

Number of queens = 4.

9. (c) 1

Explanation: The probability of a sure event is always 1.

10. (b) |a| > 2

Explanation: In the equation x2 -ax + 1 = 0

a = 1, b = -a, c = 1

D = b2 -4ac = (-a)2 -4 × 1 × 1 = a2 - 4

Roots are distinct

⇒ a2 > (2)2

⇒ |a| > 2
11. (a) imaginary

Explanation:  D = (-6)2 - 4 × 2 ×  7 = (36 - 56) = -20 < 0.

So, the roots of the given equation are imaginary.

13. (d) 338

Explanation: HCF (26, 169) = 13

We have to find the value for LCM (26, 169)

We know that the product of numbers is equal to the product of their HCF and LCM.

Therefore,

13(LCM) = 26(169)

26 ( 169 )
LCM =

13
LCM = 338
14. (b) 4

Explanation: The distance of the point P(-3,4) from the x-axis

= Y- coordinate of the point

= 4 units
15. (c) remains unchanged

Explanation:

Let height of the tower be hmeters and distance of the point of observation from its foot be x meters and angle of
h
elevation be θ ∴ tanθ = ………(i)

x
10 11h 10 11x
Now, new height = h + 10% of h = h + h= And new distance = x + 10% of x = x + x= ∴

19. (d) A is false but R is true.

Explanation: Remainder is less than by divisor not by divident.

20. (b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.

Explanation: We know that if a line is parallel to one side of a triangle then it divides the other two sides in the same
ratio. This is the Basic Proportionality theorem.

So, Reason is correct.

DB = 10.8 - 6.3 = 4.5 cm and AE = 9.6 - 4 = 5.6 cm

AD 6.3 63 7 AE 5.6 56 7
Now,  = = =  and  = = =

DB 4.5 45 5 EC 4 40 5

22. Let the present age of Aftab and his daughter be x and y years respectively. Then, the pair of linear equations that
represent the situation is

x - 7 = 7(y - 7), i.e., x - 7y + 42 = 0 ...(1)

and x + 3 = 3(y + 3), i.e., x - 3y = 6 ...(2)

from equation (2), we get x = 3y + 6

By putting this value of x in equation (1), we get

(3y + 6) -7y + 42 = 0,

i.e., -4y = -48, which gives y = 12

Again by putting this value of y in equation (2), we get

x = 3 × 12 + 6 = 42

So, the present age of Aftab and his daughter are 42 and 12 years  respectively.

OR

We have,

2x - y =4 ..................(i)

y - z =6 ..................(ii)

x - z =10 ................(iii)

From equation (iii), we get z = x - 10

Substituting the value of z in equation (ii), we get

y - (x-10)=6

⇒  y - x + 10 = 6

⇒  -x + y = 6 - 10

⇒ -x + y= -4 ...............(iv)

Adding equations (i) and (iv), we get

(2x - y) +(-x + y)  =4 + (-4)

⇒  2x - y - x + y = 0

⇒  x = 0

Putting x = 0 equation in (i) and (iii) we get

2x - y =4

⇒2(0) - y = 4

⇒ y = -4

 And  x - z =10

⇒ 0 - z = 10

⇒z = -10

So, y = -4 and z = -10

Hence, x = 0, y = -4 , z = -10 is the solution of the given system of equations.

2b 2b 2
Since a and b are integers,

a 3
We get  −  is rational, also so √5 is rational.

2b 2
But this contradicts the fact that √5 is irrational.

This contradiction arose because of our incorrect

assumption that 3 + 2√5 is rational.

So, we conclude that 3 + 2√5 is irrational.

OR

Let assume that √5 + √3 is rational

p
Therefore it can be expressed in the form of  q , where p and q are integers and q≠0

p
Therefore we can write √5 = q

q2 q
p2 − 2q2
 = √3

qp
p2 − 2q2
 is a rational number as p and q are integers. This contradicts the fact that √3 is irrational, so our assumption is
qp
incorrect. Therefore √5 + √3 is irrational.

30. Let O be the common centre of the two concentric circles.

Let AB be a chord of the larger circle which touches the smaller circle at P.

Join OP and OA

Then, ∠OPA = 90o [ ∵The tangent at any point of a circle is perpendicular to th radius through the point of contact]

∴  OA2 = OP2 + AP2 ....... By Pythagoras theorem

⇒  (5)2 = (3)2 + AP2

⇒  25 = 9 + AP2

⇒ P2  = 25 - 9

⇒  AP2  = 16

⇒  AP = √16  = 4 cm

SInce the perpendicular from the centre of a circle to a chord bisects the chord, therfore,

AP = BP = 4 cm

∴  AB = AP + BP = AP + AP = 2AP = 2(4) = 8 cm

Hence, the required length is 8 cm.

OR

OE = OE ...(Common side)

∠OAE = ∠OCE ....(each is 90°)

⇒ ΔOAE ≅ ΔOCE ....(RHS congruence criterion)

⇒ ∠AEO = ∠CEO ....(cpct)

Similarly, for the circle with centre O',

∠DEO ′ = ∠BEO ′

Now, ∠AEC = ∠DEB

31. Let PQ be the tower of height H m and an angle of elevation of the top of tower PQ from point X is 60°. The angle of
elevation at 40 m vertical from point X is 45°.

Let PQ = H m and SX = 40m. QX = x, ∠PST = 45o, ∠PXQ = 60o,

Here we have to find height of tower

The corresponding figure is as follows

We use trigonometric ratios.

In △PST

h
⇒  tan 45o =  x

h
⇒  1 =

x
⇒  x = h

Again in △PXQ

h + 40
⇒  tan 60o =  x

h + 40
⇒  √3 = x

⇒  h + 40 = √3h

⇒  h (√3 − 1) = 40

40
⇒  h =

√3 − 1
⇒  h = 54.64

Therefore H = 54.64 + 40

⇒  H = 94.64

Hence the height of tower is 94.64 m.

To prove : ΔABC ∼ ΔPQR

Construction : Produce AD to E such that AD = DE and produce PM to N such that PM = MN. Join CE and RN.

Proof : In ΔABD and ΔEDC

AD = DE

∠ADB = ∠EDC (vertically opposite angles)

BD = DC(as AD is a median)

∴ ΔABD ≡ ΔEDC (By SAS congruency)

Let the radii of the two circlular plots be r1 and r2, respectively.
