II. CONTENT Circles and The Terms Related to it

III. LEARNING a. References:
MATERIALS b. websites
c. Materials
 Laptop, Bondpaper, Whiteboard pen,
Tv, Cellphone
IV. PROCEDURE
A. INTRODUC a. Classroom Management (5mins)
TION  Opening Prayer
 Greetings
 Picking some Garbages below the
chairs
 Attendance
 Classroom Rules

b. Review (3mins)
1. What is polygon? How can you describe a
polygon?
2. Can you give an example of a polygon?
3. What is the name of a polygon from the
example your classmate?
c. Motivation (7 mins)
Blue (name of the dog) wants to go a ride with
his friends but, there is something missing from his
motorbike, he wants to find out what it is so that
his motorbike will move, can you help him to find
out what is missing.
In order to find out what is missing to Blues
motorbike, we have to find the first clue by follow
the direction or instruction and connect it all.
1st instruction: In a piece of paper, can you draw a
point in the center of the paper.
2nd instruction: Using a ruler, can you draw 10
point’s anywhere that measures 5 cm distance from
the center.
3rd instruction: after you draw the points, can you
connect all point’s together except the center.

The students who first can answer will be given a

treat from Blue.

Question:
Based on the instructions, what is formed?
What is the first clue?

The second clue will be revealed after we

determine what is the first clue (circle) and its
parts.
A. INTERACTION Discussion:

Based on the first clue, how can you define a

Circle?
- a closed curve, all points of which
are equidistant from a fixed point
called the center.
Circles are named
by their centers
using capital
letters. The circle
on the right is
called circle O.
Example:
J
Lines related to circle:

1.A radius is a segment whose one endpoint is in the

center of the circle and the other endpoint is any point
on the circle.

M
__
OJ is a radius of
circle O.
___
OM is also a
radius of circle
O. All radii of a
circle are equal
in measures.
2. A chord is a segment whose endpoints are any of Example:
two different points in the circle. J K

M
N
__
JK is a chord of
circle O.
___
MN is also a
chord of circle
O.

3. A diameter is a chord which passes through the

center of the circle. It passes through the center of a
circle. It is twice the length of a radius. Example:
J P

M L
JL is a
diameter of
circle O. MP is
also a
diameter of
circle O. All
diameters of a
circle have
equal
measures.
4. A secant is a line that contains a chord. A C
AC is a secant
of circle O. BD

5. A tangent is a line in the plane of a circle that

intersects the circle at exactly one point. This point is is
called the point of tangency. also a secant
of circle O

Other basic terms related to circles are illustrated and

defined as follows:

A central angle is an angle formed by two rays whose

vertex is the center of the circle. Each ray intersects the
circle at appoint, dividing it into arcs.

An arc is a part or a portion of a circle. The symbol for

arc is .
A semicircle is an arc with a measure equal to one-half
the circumference of a circle. It is named using the two
endpoints and another point in the arc.

A minor arc is an arc of the circle that measures less

than a semicircle. It is named usually by using the two
endpoints of the arc.

A major arc is an arc of the circle that measures

greater than a semicircle. It is named by using two
endpoints and another point on the arc.

An inscribed angle is an angle whose vertex lies on a

circle and its two sides are chords a circle. The arc that
lies in the interior of an inscribed angle and has
endpoints on the angle is called the intercepted arc.

B. INTEGRATION Activity!
The class will be divided into 10 group, group 1-
3 will be given same instruction but different
questions, group 4-7 , and group 8-10 also. Group
1-3 will identify what part of the circle is the given,
group 4-7 will have to determine the terms related
to circle based on the given figure and group 8-10
will have to illustrate by drawing a point or line
depends on the given ask on the circle. Each group
should have one representative to share their
answers.
(2 points each if they got the correct answer, and 1
point if not.)

Generalization Based on your activity, you can give now the recap
of the things that we have discussed today?
So, you already know the parts or the terms related
to the circle?
What part of a circle can be added to the first clue
for him to go a ride with his friends?
Now for the 3rd clue to find the missing piece of the
motorbike of Blue, students should answer the
questions correctly.
V. EVALUATION Choose the letter with the correct answer. Write your
answer on a separate sheet of paper.
1. A circle is a closed curve, all points of which are
equidistant from a fixed point. What do you call this
point?
A. arc B. center C. circle D. semicircle
2. Which of the following is NOT a true statement
about circle?
A. A tangent passes through the center of a circle.
B. A secant contains a chord.
C. A tangent of a circle intersects a radius.
D. A diameter divides the circle into two equal parts.

For numbers 3-6, refer to the illustration on the right.

3. Which of the following is the name of the circle?
A. circle X B. circle Y C. circle B D. circle P
 P
4. Which of the following is NOT a radius?
___ __ __ __
A. PX B. PY C. BC D. PC
5. Which of the following is a semicircle?
A. arc XC B. arc BY C. arc BXC D. arc XYB
VI. Assignment Study in advance about central angle, inscribed
angle, and arcs of a circle.
Life-long Learning For the final clue!
How can you relate the topic to real-life
situation? How significant circle to our
everyday life? And what thing that Blue should
have for his motorbike to move and can join a
ride to his friend safely?

Circle is frequently used by architecture to

create something that can be useful in our daily
lives just like a clock, plates, coins and etc.
without circle, we no longer have a
transportation wherein it makes us to go
wherever we want easily and without its parts.
Imagine when a wheel without radii on its
circle, could the wheel or the transportation can
hold a person? no, its not since it could be
destroy. Another, in sports like volleyball,
basketball do you think that if the ball is not
perfect circle in shape it could also bounce? No
and never because other shape has its edges,
corners. And also, in archers as you can see
there a radii or diameter to its target board that
is because it can easily measure the distance of
the opponent target.
Therefore, Blues missing piece is a wheel for
his motorbike to move and can join to his
friend to go somewhere safely with the help of
the center and radii of a round shape of a
wheel.
