Guidelines for filling out the survey form:

1. COMPANY DETAILS
- Provide a complete and up-to-date company and contact details. Some of the information is
already pre-filled. In case this information is incorrect, you can overwrite it.

2. COMPANY EXPORT RESULTS

- Use the 2022 calendar year to provide all export and local sales figures, unless otherwise notified
by your CBI expert.
- All figures must be reported in (€) Euros (do not include decimals). If a company operates with
other foreign currencies, use the Euro exchange rate set on the last day of the reporting period
(December 31st 2022) to report the equivalent figures.
- Questions 2a, 2b, and 2c: A disaggregation (break down) is made between results obtained from
EU/EFTA (including the UK), REGIONAL and REST OF THE WORLD markets. For more information,
see ANNEX 1.

In Process
- Question 2d: This figure concerns only local (in-country) sales. Sales to other local exporters who
eventually export the products abroad are also considered Local Sales.
- Our strategy focuses on sustainable production and trade. Therefore, the value of export of
sustainable products and services should also be reported. CBI defines this category as products
and/or services with an international certificate or label. Examples are: Fairtrade, Rainforest
Alliance, Travellife etc. The CBI expert can further assist regarding certificates or labels which are
sector specific. If there is no export or sales linked to a specific standard or label of sustainable
products or services, the entry should be reported as 0.
- Questions about the influence of COVID-19 on your 2022 export results:
Is Covid-19 still influencing your export figures? If so, what type of changes has your company
experienced?
o Targeted different markets: change in the type of market (e.g. more local sales)
o Adapted the products/services portfolio: change in the type of products/services offered
o Adjusted the products/services volume: change in the number of products sold or services
provided
o Adjusted prices: change in the price of products or services
Please tick the box(es) (multiple answers are possible) that categorizes the effect(s) your company
has experienced. If the effect does not fall into one of these categories, please tick the box of
‘other’ and write down what the effect has been.

3. COMPANY EMPLOYMENT RESULTS

- Direct employment refers to the total number of employees directly employed by the company
participating in a CBI project. These employees are on pay-roll or under some kind of employment
agreement. Formal & Informal employment is included in this figure.
o Full-time: these employees are employed during the full year, for the full working week.
o Part-time: these employees are employed during the full year, but only work a few days
or hours a week.
o Seasonal: these employees are only employed a certain part (season) of the year (e.g.
harvesting or peak season)
- Youth employment within ages 15 up to (and including) 24. Indicate the number of employees
within this age range. If none of the employees fall under this category, then the answer is 0.
Remember that this pool of employees is part of the direct employment figures you are reporting.
- Indirect employment: Indirect jobs represent all third party individuals who gain work/employment
as a result of the export activities generated by participating company in 2022. The company does
not have an employment agreement with these individuals. See ANNEX 2 for clarification and
examples.
- Question about the influence of COVID-19 on your 2021 employment results:
Is Covid-19 still influencing your employment figures? If so, which group of employees has been
affected the most? Please check the box(es) that mentions the effect(s) your company has
experienced. Multiple answers are possible.

ANNEX 1. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the deadline to complete the 2022 company survey?

The company can complete the survey as soon as it has received the survey instructions and link to the online
form. The company should submit the survey by January 20, 2023, so the CBI expert can validate and submit the
survey by no later than January 27, 2023. Data sent to CBI after January 31st will not be included in the annual
results report. In addition, the company will no longer be considered as a CBI project participant.

What if the company still does not have its 2022 annual figures available by January 27th?
Companies should use the 2022 calendar year to report on Export and Employment figures.
If the annual figures are not ready, the company should make a realistic estimate. Those figures should be based
on existing contracts, confirmed order commitments, or comparable results from recent months/quarters.

Do all companies report their results based on their calendar year figures?
In general, all companies must report on the 2022 calendar year figures. Only for some projects a different
period will be an exception. In that case you will be notified by the CBI expert.

In Process
What are the different categories of export figures?
There are three categories ranked in priority order:
1. EU/EFTA markets. For a list of countries, please click on this link. Note that UK is also included in this
category although it is no longer mentioned on the list.
2. REGIONAL markets. There is no overall definition for this. You should use your own definition or what
has been agreed at the project-level; what do you consider ‘regional’?
- Important: If part of your regional export goes to the EU, then these export results should be
reported as export to EU markets. The rest of the regional export results should be reported as
such.
3. REST OF THE WORLD markets (former non-EU/EFTA). This is the export to countries not part of the
EU/EFTA or REGIONAL markets.

What are considered local sales?

All sales to local companies and all in-country sales. If the goods end up being exported by another company or
local exporter, this is still considered local sales for your company.

How to report on Direct Employment figures?

Direct employees are considered all employees directly linked to the company participating in a CBI project.
Companies should report on the total number of full-time (all year, full workweek), part-time (all year, limited
number of days or hours per week), and seasonal employees (only parts of the year).
The Male and Female employee count must be specified.

How to report on Indirect Employment figures?

Employees of third-party companies or suppliers (not directly employed by the company) who are supporting or
involved in the export operations should be reported in the Indirect Employment section (3c). See ANNEX 2 for a
complete explanation of Indirect Employment and examples.

What if the Male & Female employment division is not available?

If the exact figures are not available, a good estimation of the male and female count should be provided.

What do you mean with Youth employment, ages 15 up to and including 𝟐𝟒 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐥𝐝?
Companies can stimulate but also benefit from employing a young workforce. If your company's direct workforce
comprises of employees between the ages of 15 and 24 years of age, specify the number of full-time, part-time,
and seasonal employees within this group range. Please note that these young employees are also included in
the total employment figures and should not be reported twice.

What if the question does not apply to my company?

All questions apply to all companies, thus all questions need to be answered. No question can be answered with
‘Not Applicable’ (N/A). For instance, if you are not working with seasonal employees, you should enter 0 instead
of N/A.

ANNEX 2. INDIRECT EMPLOYMENT

Definition: Indirect jobs represent all third-party individuals who gain employment due to the export activities
generated by the participating company but are not directly employed by this company. These individuals may
work within the value chain such as distributors, suppliers or services providers. Measuring 'indirect jobs' gives
us an indication of all beneficiaries and wider reach of individual CBI projects.

Indirect jobs are measured (estimated figure) separately from direct jobs in the survey and listed as a separate
indicator. Although various mechanisms exist to calculate indirect employment, the focus is on estimating job
creation/sustenance in the entire sector. We aim to measure CBI’s reach; therefore, a realistic estimate is more
fitting for CBI’s purposes.

Examples of indirect jobs that might be applicable for your sector:

FAQ: How should we categorise seasonal workers; as direct or indirect employees?

Seasonal workers are direct employees. There is an employment agreement between the company and the
individual. Individuals who operate independently or through another company to offer their services to the
SME (such as an external truck driver) for a determined period of time are not considered direct employees.
They are considered indirect employees.
