With reference to your memo dated 15 November (ref. No. PSA31), I hereby respond as stated
below.
Preamble
I was appointed as a Specialist Adviser to UCH through IAMRAT with effect from 1st January
2015. The appointment was based on my position as a registered pharmacist with Pharmacists
Council of Nigeria (PCN) and as an adjunct Professor/Research in Genetics and Bioethics Unit
of IAMRAT form 2001 till date. My letter of appointment clearly specifies that I will discharge
my duties in the area of medical research, training and services in the hospital.
My role in UCH which actually predates my appointment in 2015 includes the following;
RESEARCH
Sickle Cell research:

 My mentor, Head of Genetics & Bioethics and main collaborator Professor Adeyinka
Falusi and I along with others have carried and are still carrying out research activities
plus advocacy outreaches on sickle cell disease that involves UCH patients and a number
of UCH staff and Consultants, which included physicians, nurses, pharmacists, public
health and other health care team members). We have attracted several grants and
embarked on several projects in UCH and externally. We are just closing up a current
study titled “Prevalence of HBV, HCV and HIV among individuals with and without
Sickle Cell Disease in South West Nigeria’ (named HEP study) sponsored by GILEAD
Sciences Incorporation USA. The findings, some of which have been published will
guide management of SCDs which will guide management.

 The Genetics & Bioethics Unit of IAMRAT, which I head in the absence of Professor
