LASER ON Status LED States

How the LED lights up depends on the average height of the target object within the LED lighting X-axis range.
It lights up green when the average height of the target object is within the LED lighting Z-axis range, or orange when
the height is outside the LED lighting Z-axis range but within the Z-axis measurement range.
When the height is outside any Z-axis measurement range, the light flash orange.

2.2 Using Programmable Encoders

Configure the required settings for using the programmable encoder

20
2.1 Adjusting Line Scan Intervals

What are Line Scan Intervals?

• Time-specified: Set the import intervals for each line by time (µs/line).
• Programmable encoder-specified: Set how many programmable encoder counts are handled as a line (count/line).

If the line scan interval is not adjusted properly, processed

images will be displayed with vertical elongation or compression.

Adjusting Line Scan Intervals

• When line scan intervals are time-specified
Utilise the trigger input and move the targets to project
the processed images.

If the processed images are vertically elongated or

compressed, adjust the scan frequency according to the
travel speed of the target.
If the processed image ranges are too wide or narrow,
adjust the number of import lines.

Go into "Head Settings" and change "Line Scan Interval",

then check for elongation or compression of processed
images.

Increase time > Compresses images

Reduce time > Elongates images

Change "Number of Lines" under "Capture Area Settings"

if adjusting the number of import lines.

21
• When line scan intervals are programmable encoder-specified
Utilise the trigger input and move the targets to project
the processed images.

If the processed images are vertically elongated or

compressed, adjust the line scan interval according to
the travel speed of the target.
If the processed image ranges are too wide or narrow,
adjust the number of import lines.

Go into "Head Settings" and change "Line Scan Interval",

then check for elongation or compression of processed
images.

Change "Number of Lines" under "Capture Area

Settings" if adjusting the number of import lines.

You can check the count status of the Programmable

encoder.

Enter the travel range for 1 pulse (×1 Sampling) for

the Programmable encoder.

*Programmable encoder input is at the same pitch as

for single lines, but data identical to the acquired data
is generated and interpolated.
Increasing line interpolation elongates images.
Reducing line interpolation compresses images.

For example, 4-line interpolation

Blue: Acquired data, Red: Interpolation data

22
2.2 Using Programmable Encoders

What are Programmable Encoders?

Programmable encoders are sensors that detect the direction of travel, travel range and angle of rotating or moving
objects.

Furthermore, with the LJ-X8000 Series, using the dedicated encoder (CA-EN100H/U) allows for the number of pulses per
revolution to be set to any value, making it easy and flexible to set up in a manner which suits different worksites.
Even if not using the dedicated encoder, the number of pulses can still be easily adjusted via "Line Scan Interval
Adjustment".

Using the Dedicated Encoder

Open "Line Scan Interval Settings" under "Head
Settings".

Add a check to "Manual Settings", then open the

details.

Add a check to "Use Dedicated Encoder", then open

"Line Scan Interval Adjustment".

To use the dedicated encoder, the LJ-X and

dedicated encoder must be connected via an
RS-232C cable.

23
• Example when using "XY Ratio Adjustment Navigation"
Captures images with current encoder parameters, and temporarily sets a scaling coefficient
based on actual size values and measurement values (number of pixels) obtained from captured
images.
Programmable encoder parameters will be calculated automatically to bring the temporary scaling
coefficient X/Y values closer to 1:1.
Press "XY Ratio Adjustment Navigation".

(1) Press .

(2)Utilise TRG input, and capture images while a target

workpiece with a known width travels in the X and Y
directions.

(3)Display images by importing images for the number of

lines.
◆ How to handle when a "trigger pass" occurs in (3)
• Move the target slowly
• Enter a value lower than 1 in "Specify Change Scale
Factor", and calculate after first performing vertical
compression
• Reduce the number of pulses per revolution*
• Increase the number of import pulses per line
*When using a KEYENCE dedicated encoder

(4)Utilise TRG input again, and obtain the number of pixels

in the vertical or horizontal direction based on the image
captured with the current programmable encoder
parameters. Next, enter the actual size values to
calculate the scaling coefficient.

*Actual sizes are measured in mm units.

The scaling coefficient is calculated.

(5)Press the "Reflect Parameters" button, and encoder

parameters will be calculated automatically to bring the
temporary scaling coefficient X/Y values closer to 1:1.

24
Using Programmable Encoders from Other Companies
The basic procedures for when using programmable encoders from other companies are the same as those for the
dedicated encoder.
*See the previous page for the procedures.

What is different is the result displayed when the "Reflect Parameters" button is pressed.

• With dedicated encoder

Number of pulses per revolution
Line scan intervals
Sampling
• With a programmable encoder from another company
Number of pulses per revolution
Line scan intervals
The above items will be displayed accordingly.

The pulley size or encoder pulses are fixed when using encoders from other companies, and so, the corresponding pulley
sizes or numbers of pulses must be calculated in advance.
If using the dedicated encoder, the number of pulses per revolution can be adjusted, allowing users to make fine
adjustments according to the specifications of the devices being used.
