QUESTION:
The constitution also says that workers must be provided with protective clothing during the
discharge of their duties and should also work in an environment which should not affect their
health.Rooms should be well ventilated to allow fresh air to enter and also they should have
adequate lighting.
The constitution emphasizes also that every worker has a right to join a union of his/her choice. No
one should coerce anyone to be a member of a union but people should freely join.Section 65 of
the constitution of our country gives the workers the right to go on strike, stage a sit in or even
withdraw labour if their demands are not met as long as proper procedures are followed.
One of the issues addressed by this section of the constitution of Zimbabwe is that the employer
should provide conditions that meet the minimum required standards and that contractual
agreements should be respected.Any other assignments should be related to the contractual
agreements. It speaks of equal pay for equal work for people doing the same job irrespective of
gender. It says employers should avoid variation of ones duties, benefits and place of work as this is
regarded as unfair labour practise.
